Education and Experience
- Excellent customer and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) equipment including ramps, lifts, straps and harnesses.
- Possess and able to maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) B in good standing with P and S endorsements.
- Drivers must possess valid CDL B with P and S endorsements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain 19-A certification.
- Ability to maintain valid driver’s license, physical exam certification and appropriate endorsements.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience driving vehicles with a CDL requirement.
- Successful completion of a thorough background check (post offer), which includes a driver’s record and a criminal conviction history.
- Candidates must submit to drug screening as a condition of initial hire and will be subject to random, incident, and reasonable suspicion drug testing throughout employment.
- Drive a shuttle, bus or van and transport passengers around campus and throughout the City of Syracuse in a safe and courteous manner, adhering to set policies, procedures and schedules.
- Provide direction to students, faculty, and staff members regarding the Shuttle service program.
- Operate vehicle communication systems within guidelines set by the University.
- Maintain scheduled route to established time and mileage. Immediately notify supervisor of changes/delays.
- Clean and fuel shuttle, bus or van as part of daily duties as directed by supervisor and in accordance with University policy.
- Conduct vehicle inspections as required by 19-A and DOT regulations.
- Record and report incidents/problems through appropriate procedures established by the department.
- Notify supervisors and DPS of any incidents, accidents, mechanical concerns.
- Attend all training and meetings, as well as maintain CDL and all applicable certifications and endorsements (includes regular physicals, re-certification training and examinations).
- Other duties as assigned.
