JOB SUMMARY
The regional operations director is responsible for the oversight of warehouse operations, including but not limited to include inventory control, cycle counting, order processing, warehouse activities, transportation, maintenance and security for assigned geographic distribution centers (DC). General areas of responsibility include monitoring and attainment of performance metrics, logistics planning and output, warehouse layout and utilization, personnel development and leadership, communications and information flow to management teams and associates, facility safety, security and maintenance, transportation and budget management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Continuously monitor warehouse operations’ performance metrics and adjust activities to meet or exceed performance expectations and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate as necessary with other departments (i.e., sales, customer service, operations, purchasing, and corporate) to ensure distribution operations are completed efficiently and effectively and customer issues are resolved expediently.
  • Direct, coordinate and monitor the daily activities and performance of the regional operations team to assure compliance of standard company policies, procedures, quality, and safety.
  • Coach and develop the team in balancing the delivery of high productivity, quality and customer service.
  • Maintain a positive and safe work environment.
  • Oversee employee relations and participate in staff selection, performance and compensation evaluations, corrective action and terminations, as necessary.
  • Establish performance goals, monitor progress and provide feedback as necessary.
  • Manage employee performance through motivation, delegation, development, mentoring and resolving conflict.
  • Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and following company policy.
  • Provide and/or coordinate training as needed.
  • Conduct regular department meetings to foster employee engagement, communicate any changes to company policies and procedures, address employee concerns, foster idea-sharing and suggestions for improvement.
  • Participate in the preparation of annual operating budgets for all functional areas of distribution center (DC).
  • Monitor budget, including labor, supplies, company assets, maintenance and repair, and third party contracts.
  • Regularly review profit and losses (P&L), operations summaries and reports and performance metrics with management teams and solicit recommendations for improvements of service and efficiencies.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with third-party vendors to ensure communication and efficient operations.
  • Prepare bids and capital requests as required.
  • Ensure each distribution center complies with local, regional and federal laws and required documentation.
  • Continually monitor the condition and maintenance of each warehouse, including equipment, ensuring that all are kept consistent within the safety, security, and appearance standards set by Sysco to reduce or eliminate operations related injuries or accidents, damage/loss of product or equipment, and unnecessary costs.
  • Proactively manage safety; immediately respond to any concerns and conduct proper follow up to ensure the issue was addressed.
  • Participate in and coordinate efforts with the safety committee to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ensure all associates have trained accordingly.
  • Other special projects as directed by management, including warehouse selection and coordination of any related move.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics management, supply chain or business administration preferred or equivalent education and experience.

Experience

  • 10 years’ experience with multiple facility operations, including supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of import/export receiving and shipping, and inventory control processes, procedures and practices.

Professional Skills

  • Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, environmental regulations/legislation and governing bodies, and OSHA and DOT regulations.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and professional interactive skills are necessary to perform at a high degree of proficiency.
  • Ability to effectively prepare and present reports and information and respond to questions from suppliers, customers, management and inter-department staff.
  • Capable of working with internal staff from other departments proactively and constructively.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to mentor and develop individuals and teams.
  • Able to engage and lead team discussions and meetings.
  • Understands team dynamics and works well within a team structure.
  • Collaborative management style and a strategic team player.
  • Superb organizational and project management skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple initiatives/deadlines autonomously and shift priorities as necessary.
  • Can manage large, complex projects. Uses time effectively and able to work independently.
  • Budgeting and ability to interrupt profit and losses (P&L).
  • Build working relationships with internal business partners, vendors, and customers.
  • Respond promptly to requests for service and assistance as needed.
  • Identifies and resolves problems promptly.
  • Expertise in gathering and analyzing information skillfully, along with develops alternative solutions.
  • Displays willingness to make sound decisions.

  • Attention to details and accuracy.
  • Understand and execute all relevant policies and procedures in a consistent, timely and objective manner.
  • Proficient use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, and Outlook).
  • Experience with HighJump/PeopleSoft, Voice Recognition and RF devices preferred.

  • During a regular workday, the employee must be able to stand and walk 50% of the time.

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate and the environment fast-paced.
  • Travel is regularly required to visit other distribution centers and office locations, customer meetings, company events, staff meetings, training sessions, and/or industry or vendor trade shows.
  • May be required to utilize personal vehicles for business travel that may result in long periods of sitting.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and provide proof of current automobile insurance coverage as set forth by Sysco.
  • This position may require evening, weekend or other shift work depending on business needs.
