CNC Lathe Machinist
Objective
Seeking a skilled machinist to program and operate CNC turning centers for metal and non-metal parts fabrication. This position requires expertise in machine shop theory, mathematics, material properties, and precision layout techniques for two to four axis CNC lathes.
Responsibilities
- Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine workpiece dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences
- Mount and align appropriate fixtures, tooling, and materials on CNC lathes
- Program machine parameters including cutting speeds, feed rates, coolant flow, and cutting angles
- Monitor operations to identify malfunctions or quality issues, making necessary adjustments
- Conduct trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings and programming
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, height gauges, CMMs)
- Perform proper deburring and part protection procedures
- Maintain equipment functionality and organize tooling and fixtures
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to set up and operate CNC lathes
- Proficiency in measurement techniques and quality control, including bore gauge operation
- Strong blueprint reading skills with ability to interpret various views, tolerances, and bills of materials
- Programming experience with Fanuc and Haas controllers
- Knowledge of materials, dimensional requirements, and threading specifications
- Ability to set tool offsets, modify cutter compensation values, and establish machine zeros
- Understanding of G-code programming fundamentals
- Experience writing programs using G-code and Quick code
- Working knowledge of Mastercam software
