System One is currently seeking a highly motivated Transportation & Rail Operations Specialist to join the Rail team in Chicago, IL. In this role you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting projects. This role will report to our Regional Director-Rail USA.

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for acting as subject matter expert, managing project delivery, and business development with existing clients in the Midwest region. These projects could include feasibility analyses; trade off studies; conceptual design; preliminary and detailed design; overseeing the drafting of plans and specifications; and other support as required to the Rail and Infrastructure teams.

As the successful candidate, you will:
- Conduct transportation studies and analyze data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities.
- Develop and implement transportation plans, policies, and programs.
- Collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and proposals for transportation projects.
- Evaluate the impact of transportation projects on the community and environment.
- Provide technical support and guidance on transportation-related issues.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing rail engineering clients in the Midwest region.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the rail engineering sector.
- Support Regional Business Development strategy.
- Mentor junior engineers.
You bring to the role:
- Min. 7 years of transport planning related work experience preferably with railways and industrial tenants
- A Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or related field.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer or Professional Traffic Operations Engineer is a plus.
- Experience with client relations and business development.
- Proficiency in transportation planning software and tools.
- Experience with GIS and data visualization tools.
- Experience in the use and application of railway industry standards.
- Proficiency in CRM software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office suite
- Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, Openrail, Navisworks and ArcGIS.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A desire to learn and continually develop.
