Summary
- The Biotherapeutics and Genetics Medicine department within Discovery Research is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join in the Genetic Medicine (GM) group at Company Bioresearch Center.
- The client site, based in Worcester, MA, offers a unique setting where GM, Biologics drug discovery, development and manufacturing coexist in one location.
- Our team interacts with multidisciplinary groups across Company focused on developing therapies for Immunology, Neurology, Ophthalmology and Oncology diseases.
- As an integral member of the GM team this individual will perform research related to mRNA therapeutics to strength the platform and support various programs.
- The successful candidate is expected to have knowledge of RNA molecular biology, production, quality control, and cell-based assays.
- As one of the key team members, this individual will work with scientists across different functional groups and therapeutic areas to discover and develop next generation biologics through interrogation of RNA-related technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- In vitro transcription to produce mRNA at different scales to support the platform development and therapeutic programs.
- RNA Purification using affinity chromatography (AKTA) and other strategies for purification.
- Quality control assays for mRNAs like electrophoresis, ELISA, qPCR, etc.
- Perform cell-based assays, such as cell culture, transfection, and flow cytometry.
- Work closely with the manager and cross-functional team members on multiple tasks with the ability to analyze, interpret, and present data.
- Assist in ordering reagents from internal and external suppliers and communicating with CROs.
- Generate reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner. Read and adapt scientific literature to accomplish assignments. Demonstrate broad and versatile technical expertise within discipline.
- Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) in compliance with the Company Laboratory Notebook Policy.
- Stay updated and in compliance on all departmental and corporate training.
Key Qualifications:
- MS in molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering or related field with 0-2 years of experience in biotherapeutics or genetic medicine or BS with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Hands-on experience with nucleic acid preparation, purification (AKTA), QC, and cell-based assays.
- Working knowledge of related tools/software (SnapGene, Prism, FlowJo, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
- Self-motivated, hard-working, detail-oriented, resourceful, and able to work in a fast-paced team environment with demonstrated problem-solving skills.
- High-quality written and oral communication skills and the ability to excel in a collaborative environment.
