We are currently looking to hire a qualified Operations Electronics Technician I to provide support to the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division’s (NAWCWD) PTMO (Pacific Target and Marine Operations) program at Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme, CA. In this role, you'll be serving as an Electronics Technician in a marine environment, dockside at Port Hueneme, CA.
Primary Duties (others duties may be added as needs dictate):
- Main duty is to function and serve as Electronics Technician in a marine environment, dockside at Port Hueneme, CA.
- Secondary duty is to become qualified and knowledgeable in remote operations of marine vessels varying in length from 12 ft to 264 ft.
- Knowledge in marine electronics, AC/DC electrical systems, repair and installation of marine components is essential in the build-up and operation of marine target vessels.
- Ability to diagnose marine equipment malfunctions and perform repairs under minimal supervision is required.
- Experience in utilizing test equipment for troubleshooting and installations such as a voltmeter, soldering equipment and crimpers required.
- Ability to read blueprints, sketches, drawings and work orders is mandatory.
- Occasionally may serve as a crewmember on various-sized vessels and/or remote-control operator of unmanned surface targets, supporting maritime operations.
- Other duties as assigned to include forklift operator, HAZMAT, safe and effective use of PPE and small hand tools, and any other needed duties within contract scope.
Work Conditions:
- Conditions will vary but outdoor duties may be performed on shore or afloat and on even or uneven surfaces, which may be dry or wet.
- Requires the ability to work in a seaborne environment with some shift work at remote locations with multiple overnight assignments.
- Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
- Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. alone, 50-100 lbs. assisted by other employees.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
- Work Schedule is currently 9/80 schedule (Mon – Thurs 9 hours, alternating Fridays between 8 hrs. and off).
- Overtime will be required at times to support operations.
- Travel to remote locations required on a routine basis but work location is normally NAWCWD Port Hueneme.
- Routine deployments on support and target vessels may be required, INCONUS and occasionally OCONUS for mission support.
Requirements
Education/Experience/Skills:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Technical school training or specialized training in the appropriate field required or a total of two-four (2-4) years’ experience in performing the stated functions may replace education.
- Experience in a military environment (E4 ) or on a military facility preferred but not required.
- Basic understanding of Computer/Networking/MS Office.
- Works well with others as a member of a team.
- Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
- U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
- All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
