Job Summary:
The Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational efficiency of the plant’s production equipment. This position supports the Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and Quality Control teams by resolving equipment and process issues. The role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to assist in troubleshooting and improving plant operations. The Maintenance Technician will also be involved in training and mentoring maintenance staff, developing technical standards, and providing recommendations for improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance to General Maintenance Mechanics (GMMs) and assist with troubleshooting production equipment issues.
- Support automation engineers with troubleshooting and coordinating with contractors.
- Train GMMs on plant technologies, including PLCs, robotics, ladder logic, and other equipment.
- Develop and implement technical standardization practices for the plant, identifying opportunities for improvements.
- Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, and Production teams to define requirements for new equipment, ensuring effective testing and evaluation.
- Provide technical training and guidance to employees on new or modified equipment, improving overall plant performance.
- Monitor plant equipment performance and ensure optimal uptime by contributing to problem-solving and equipment repairs.
- Assist in developing and writing work orders and procedures to resolve equipment malfunctions and improve long-term operational efficiency.
- Participate in Maintenance, PIT, and plant team meetings related to the plant’s operational needs and troubleshooting.
- Recommend spare parts and maintain effective inventory controls to reduce stock while ensuring parts availability.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree or technical certification preferred).
- 5 years of relevant manufacturing or maintenance experience.
- Experience with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting in an industrial environment.
- Practical knowledge of plant security and confidentiality policies.
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
Special Requirements:
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with all plant levels and external customers or suppliers.
- Must be available for call-ins, weekend work, and plant shutdowns when necessary.
- Ability to troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLC’s and Studio 5000 ladder logic, FANUC robot programs (Handling Tool certification preferred), and Cognex vision systems.
- Must be comfortable working with 3-phase motors, Allen Bradley VFDs, and Servos.
- Experience with troubleshooting and maintenance of plant equipment including robotics, conveyors, and automated systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a focus on both electrical and mechanical systems.
- Proficient in the use of computer systems for technical documentation, reporting, and work order generation.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, automation, and robotics.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to equipment maintenance.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
Additional Desired Characteristics:
- Experience with glass manufacturing or similar industries.
- Ability to design, specify, or program maintenance-related items and improve system reliability.
- Familiarity with managing spare parts inventory and recommending improvements to reduce downtime.
Work Environment:
- This position involves working night shifts, from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, on a rotating schedule.
- Must be comfortable working in an industrial environment with regular exposure to heavy machinery and technical equipment.
- The role may involve occasional travel or off-site training, depending on project needs.
