Job Summary:
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the purchasing and inventory planning of specific products and components using lean manufacturing principles. This role plays a key part in maintaining cost-effective procurement strategies, ensuring timely delivery, and supporting the company’s manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage material planning and procurement for designated commodity groups.
- Reorder components for manufacturing inventories, maintenance, repair, and operating supplies.
- Process and track capital expenditure requests.
- Maintain equipment lease records and contracts, notifying relevant personnel when renewals are due.
- Coordinate with freight companies on claims, lost shipments, and monthly parcel insurance reports.
- Collaborate with customs brokers to resolve international freight issues and track associated costs.
- Perform data entry and maintain purchasing documentation.
- Assist in backing up Buyer/Planners and production staff for subcontract and external processing orders.
- Manage supplier and material number setup processes.
- Log and scan expense requests (ERs).
- Act as the primary liaison with cleaning contractors, addressing issues and managing special projects.
- Obtain vendor quotes, manage performance ratings, and maintain vendor files (including ISO certificates and supplier evaluations).
- Place expense and service purchase orders.
- Distribute commodity price indexes and current exchange rates monthly.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing, or Business (preferred).
- At least one (1) year of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with international purchasing and familiarity with the fluid power industry or manufacturing environment (preferred).
Special Requirements:
- Completion of APICS or ISM-sponsored classes and/or APICS CPIM or ISM CSM/CPSM certification (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in ERP software (SAP experience preferred).
- Strong technical skills with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (minimum two years' experience required).
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Familiarity with supply chain management principles.
