Job Summary:

Recreation & Wellbeing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a dynamic, energetic, goal oriented, and innovative leader within the field of higher education and collegiate recreation. The Assistant Director of Member Services is a full-time employee under the direct supervision of the Director of Member Engagement. They will manage the member services program including staffing, membership sales, locker rentals, merchandise, and customer inquiries, and will supervise two Coordinators of Member Services, up to two professional interns, and approximately 150 part-time student employees.

They are directly responsible for the oversight of member services across the Nicholas Recreation Center and the Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center. They will oversee all of the hiring, training, and development of member services student employees. They are responsible for the creation and oversight of the member services budget, for the review and development of policies impacting member services, and for the cultivation of relationships within the division and across campus with a focus on enhancing student and member experiences. They will work to engage the greatest number of students as possible with Rec Well, while also pursuing opportunities to attract and keep more than 3,000 non-student members. They are directly responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and day-to-day functionality of our comprehensive campus recreation software (Innosoft Fusion), and also of access control within our facilities. They will work directly with professional and student staff to plan and coordinate activities, assess problems, and develop solutions.

Responsibilities:

Manages a department of recreation that encompasses multiple comprehensive recreation programs. Oversees and performs activities including policy development and enforcement, program development and expansion, participant eligibility, and/or risk management. May supervise staff.

  • 20% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • 15% Provides leadership and direction regarding programmatic decisions, budgets, and logistics
  • 30% Manages applicable software systems for program registration, sport management, and participation data
  • 10% Develops and audits the unit budget
  • 15% Prepares and analyzes statistical reports, evaluations, participation surveys, and program manuals
  • 10% Facilitates the development of new programs and fosters relationships with existing student organizations

Education:

Required

Bachelor's Degree in recreation, sports administration, higher education, or related field.

Preferred

Master's Degree in recreation, sports administration, higher education, or related field.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Two years of full-time, professional experience in collegiate recreation
  • Experience supervising full or part time employees
  • Experience supporting budget management and financial operations
  • Experience utilizing Innosoft Fusion in a member services setting, including data input, member access, payment systems, and working with Fusion's support team
  • Experience working in a team and supporting colleagues
  • Demonstrated leadership, customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Four years of full-time, professional experience in collegiate recreation
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead, manage, and support full-time staff
  • Experience working with a departmental budget, including budget creation, management, and the development of revenue forecasts
  • Experience with business development

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
