Under the supervision of the Club Sports Coordinator, the Club Sports Graduate Intern will:
- Advise 5-10 Club Sports per year on travel, home events, finances, leadership development, and fundraising
- Assist Coordinator with budget tracking for 55 Club Sport Organizations
- Oversee the Club Sport Council with assistance from the Club Sport Coordinator
- Develop agendas and content for meetings, trainings, and workshops
- Assist in recruiting, training, hiring, scheduling, evaluating, motivating, and developing student staff
- Assist with Club Sport assessment strategies and data collection and analysis to provide meaningful improvements to the program
- Provide professional site supervision at least one night per week
- Embody and utilize the department's Mission, Vision, and Values to improve and maintain program excellence
- Represent the Program and the Department of Recreation at other university-related events and conferences
- Summer employment is available through our 8-week summer day camp program that serves children ages 5-11 and is hosted on campus.
Intramural Sports Intern Overview
Under the supervision of the Intramural Sports Coordinator the Intramural Sports Graduate Intern will:
- Embody and utilize the department's Mission, Vision and Values to improve and maintain program excellence.
- Provide professional site supervision at least one night per week.
- Provide office hours during the day to be available for intramural employees and participants.
- Advise and mentor 2-3 Intramural student managers, 12-18 supervisors and 30-50 student officials
- Assist the coordinator in the scheduling of Intramural games, leagues and special events.
- Act as lead contact for Keller League, the Intramural programs Fraternity component with 16-24 fraternities.
- Develop agendas and content for meetings, trainings, and workshops.
- Manage special events throughout the year, including events held at Rutgers Athletic sites like SHI Stadium and Jersey Mike’s Arena
- Assist the coordinator in recruiting, training, hiring, scheduling, evaluating, motivating, and developing student staff.
- Manage equipment and inventory for the Intramural sports program.
- Work to introduce new and innovative one day special events to the intramural program.
- Represent the Program and the Department of Recreation at other university related events, conferences, and extramural tournaments.
Operations Intern Overview
Under the supervision of the Member Services Coordinator, this internship will familiarize the graduate intern with all staffing, scheduling and operational needs at our recreational facilities.
We are seeking applicants with an interest in recreation who are looking to gain experience in student staff development, leadership and recreation facility operations.
The Graduate Intern Will Be Responsible For
- Assisting with all elements of hiring, scheduling, supervision, training and mentoring for 60-90 undergraduate and graduate student employees
- Implementing business practices using Innosoft Fusion, DSERec, Smartsheet, and the Microsoft Office Suite
- Reviewing facility schedules and arranging operational needs for facility reservations
- Becoming familiarized with and implementing university and departmental risk management policies and procedures
- Working closely with facility visitors to resolve operational and customer services concerns
- Developing, maintaining and implementing operating manuals, as well as in-person and virtual trainings
- Building community among staff members
- Participating in staff meetings and staff development activities sponsored by the department, division and university
- Performing other duties as assigned to support the department, division and university
Club Sports Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Do Sports Easy management website
- Proficiency with Microsoft products
- Experience managing social media accounts
- Student Organization Leadership experience
- Knowledge of IMLeagues management website
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel
- Experience managing Social Media accounts
- Experience in sports officiating and/or official Certifications in any sport
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to complete a defensive driving course within the first month of employment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to effectively interact with professionals, students, faculty, staff, and community members
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Suite
- Bachelor’s degree
- Acceptance into a graduate program. Preference will be given to accepted candidates in either the College Student Affairs or the Global Sports Business Graduate Programs.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification, or ability to get certified within the first month of employment.
