The City of Golden is seeking a passionate Director of Parks and Recreation to provide strategic leadership over the activities and operations of the City’s parks and recreation facilities and programs. The department is primed for its next leader to build on the teams’ strengths and established programs, while leading the division into the future and ensuring its long-term programming and financial success.
The next Parks and Recreation Director will be an engaging and visionary leader responsible for a high-performing department with a $25 million budget, 2 deputy directors, and an overall staff ranging from 100-400 including seasonal employees. Golden seeks a leader who is creative and flexible, adept in change management and willing to consider alternative programming and creative solutions to boost attendance at city facilities and recreation programs. A leader with a strong work ethic, collaborative management style, and a keen ability to communicate, listen, engage and respond while maintaining a sense of humor will serve the department well.
Ideal candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree with course work in parks and recreation, administration or business, AND a minimum of 7 years of experience in a public service setting. Master’s degree preferred. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Executive (CPRE) through the National Parks and Recreation Association is preferred. Successful leadership, strategic planning, budgeting, and business development experience is critical.
