Summary

Marketing Specialist:

This position develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive branding and marketing and promotional plan for the department including design of all print and electronic media (social media, digital tv’s, website) photography, and videography with oversight of a graduate assistant and student employees. The marketing specialist assists in administering student employee programs including advising the student employee board, and oversight of policies, procedures for hiring, business practices, discipline and evaluation, for the entire department. This position may periodically assist with facility operations and event management.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and coordinating a 365-day marketing plan for the Office of Recreation and Health and Wellness and assist with website updates for Athletics-Club Sports.

  • Oversee all website and social media for all areas, including all editing and design, and in accordance with university standards. Train and guide administrative/classified staff and supervise student intern on this regard.
  • Responsible for coordinating communications and promotions for assigned departments, including various print/PDF pieces, all digital display content, messaging, and presentations. Writes original copy, edits, and completes basic design for varying promotional pieces.
  • Responsible for coordinating, scheduling, and staffing marketing tables at campus events for our offices. Serve as Recreation and Health and Wellness alumni outreach and fundraising initiatives coordinator. Maintain digital timeline and historical displays.
  • Provide direct leadership and ongoing training and supervision of graduate assistants, undergraduate students, and interns assigned to Marketing.
  • Assist with facility operations and event coverage associated with the Offices of Health and Wellness and Recreation. Serve department and University community via representation and leadership of University, Divisional and office committees. Develop agendas, document meetings, delegate essential tasks, problem solve and enhance communication among and between constituent groups.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following Degree is required:

Bachelor’s degree required. Degree must be confirmed at the time of application.

The Following Degree Is Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Business, Recreation, Event Planning, Marketing, Graphic Design, or related field.

The Following Experience Is Required:

2 years of Marketing experience

2 years of experience as a GA or student employee is equal to 1 year of professional experience

The Following Experience Is Preferred:

1 year creating social media campaigns

1 year supervising students

1 year experience working within collegiate recreation

The Following Licensure, Certifications, Or Registration Is Required:

First Aid and CPR certification are required, but can be obtained within two months of the start of employment

Graduate Assistant: Aquatics

Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to assist with Aquatics Operations and Programming in the Recreation and Wellness Department. Key areas and programs include Swim Meet Management and Rentals, Learn-to-Swim, Health & Safety, and Aquatics Staff Management. This individual also supervises multiple Student Supervisors for the Aquatics and Youth and Family areas.

Essential Duties And Tasks:

  • Aquatics staff management which includes supervising, hiring, training, scheduling, approving payroll and providing discipline for aquatics employees (approximately 35 students).
  • Fill in as lifeguard when student employee is unable to work scheduled shift or during unassigned shifts.
  • Maintain and coordinate student employee files (certification expirations, etc.).
  • Supervise Student Supervisor(s) in the aquatics and youth & family programs.
  • Use recreation software to create events or programming and to run various reports.
  • Respond to calls and emails regarding Aquatic business.
  • Provide supervision for various events throughout the year including events on the weekends or in the evenings.
  • Assist in pool chemical testing and upkeep and with various pool maintenance.
  • Hold monthly in-service trainings.
  • Inventory, inspect, maintain, and order all First Aid supplies throughout the SRC and PFH.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and marketing of both the Learn-to-Swim and Health & Safety Programs for campus and community members.
  • Contribute to providing and maintaining a safe environment both physically and emotionally for all employees.
  • Assist with Youth and Family programming as needed.
  • Develop and maintain aquatic operational reports in Connect2Concepts or related system.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend professional and student staff meetings.
  • Read and understand Student Rec Center Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain and evaluate the knowledge and skills of all Aquatics employees through monthly in-service trainings.
  • Oversee disposal of biohazard materials to the Student Recreation Center.

Qualifications:

  • Must be willing and able to work 20 hours a week.
  • Currently enrolled at BGSU in HMSLS Graduate Degree program.
  • Must hold current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or be willing to acquire within first month at position.
  • Must hold current American Red Cross LGI (preferred or willing to obtain).
  • Strong customer service skills including interpersonal and presentation abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail, marketing skills, and computer software skills.
  • Ability to lift or move objects that weigh approximately 75 pounds.
