What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cabling Technician position at Systems Technologies?
Pieper Electric/Systems Technologies is hiring Cabling Technicians for the Milwaukee Metro area. We are looking for all levels of experience including entry level to experienced cable technicians.
Job Functions
Enforce a safe jobsite, maintaining compliance with company safety standards
Supervise additional technicians' work ensuring high quality installs
Analyze blueprints effectively for job site knowledge
Analyze upcoming tasks and anticipates equipment, procedures and training
Responsible for running new cabling and conduit in new or existing buildings
Termination and testing of fiber optic cabling
Termination and testing of new and existing cabling
Terminate voice and data jacks.
Terminate data cables on patch panels along with proper dressing techniques.
Build racks and mount rack equipment such as ladder racks and cable trays
Installation of pathways and cabling
Travel to various locations to replace/troubleshoot hardware equipment
Monitor progress of work, delivery and implementation
Accurately complete required paperwork
Professional Skills
Knowledgeable in structured cabling and other advanced technologies
Experience with deploying, terminating, splicing and testing fiber optic cable
Current low voltage cabling code knowledge
Demonstrate initiative and creativity
Must be an effective problem solver, with the ability to analyze problems, propose reasonable solutions; make logical decisions, and carry out decisions made.
Professional demeanor and appearance, along with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, permitting authorities, other employees of the organization, and vendors.
Ability to read blue prints, identify cabling pathways and comply with construction project specifications and BICSI standards.
Ability to accurately prepare project summary documentation including time sheets, daily logs, materials reconciliations, project summaries and any other pertinent information.
High school or equivalent education required
1-5 years in the communications industry - experience supervising a crew is preferred
Seeking a self-starter with willingness to take on difficult cabling jobs
Must have knowledge of basic computer skills and be able to demonstrate good writing skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook very helpful.
Must work well with little supervision individually and in a team environment.
Must be knowledgeable in various wiring configurations and terminations.
Technical skills and knowledge of telecommunications industry and/or installation.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills - verbal, written and listening
Solid attention to detail with good follow-through
Ability to read and understand floor plans
Ability to work in team environment with demonstrated positive attitude
Ability to drive to job sites - valid Driver’s License and proof of automobile insurance is required
Ability to read, write & communicate in English
Bend, lift, twist, turn, and crawl into tight spaces
Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required
Ability to terminate cable according to color codes
Ability to frequently climb up/down ladders
BICSI certification is a plus
Schedule
Monday to Friday - 40 hours standard
Optional overtime opportunities common throughout the year
