Qualifications: 48 college hours, OR high school diploma and successful completion of the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment (KPA)
Reports To: Building Principal and Classroom Teacher
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assist with planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate instructional program for three and four year children in the preschool program.
- Assist with implementation of IEPs and monitoring progress of children with disabilities.
- Assist with monitoring progress of all children utilizing the Work Sampling System.
- Make home visits with the Preschool Teacher to the homes of the preschoolers.
- Communicate with bus drivers regarding changes in transportation arrangements upon request.
- Work cooperatively with other preschool staff and related service providers.
- Assist students in physical tasks such as putting on and taking off of outer wear, moving from room to room, using the lavatory, and getting on and off the bus.
- Assist the preschool principal in planning and implementing parent involvement meetings throughout the year.
- Assist in yearly Child Find efforts.
- Maintain daily attendance and child nutrition records for preschool children.
- Assist with personal hygiene needs of students which may require lifting of students.
- Frequently lift 30-50 pounds.
- Frequently walk, stand, reach, bend, stoop, and crawl.
- Attend preschool staff meetings to remain current regarding preschool issues.
- Attend professional development sessions related to preschool.
- Assist with keeping updated health records for children enrolled in preschool.
- Assist with the inventory of supplies and materials for the preschool classroom.
- Assist with systematic transition activities for children exiting preschool.
- Assist in developmental skill screening for children entering preschool.
- Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations by interacting effectively with and demonstrating respect for the views, rights and contributions of parents, teachers and other school personnel.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
- Administer health services to students as necessary including, but not limited to, the administration of medication; the operation, maintenance, or health care through the use of medical equipment; or the administration of clinical procedures.
- Maintain appropriate professional appearance.
- Act as a consistent positive public relations agent for school and district programs and activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of information regarding individual students and their families.
- Implement and adhere to all rules and regulations, policies, administrative guidelines, and directives as adopted by the Board of Education, Principal, Administrative Staff, Superintendent and School Based Decision Making Council.
- Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification, or abuse of sick leave.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Preschool Teacher, Preschool Principal, Administrative Staff, or Superintendent of Schools.
