- SUPERVISOR: Principal
- TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 230 Days. Salary determined by the schedule set by the Board.
- EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the Principal.
EDUCATION: Completion of Master's degree in School Leadership.
EXPERIENCE: Leadership experience required at the high school level.
CERTIFICATION / LICENSES / TRAINING
- REQUIRED: South Carolina Teacher's License with Secondary Principal certification.
- PREFERRED: SCTS 4.0 evaluator; CPI
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this classification is to direct and oversee all aspects of the 9th Grade Academy in areas of academic performance, achievement, transition to high school, remediation, and student discipline. Responsible for coordinating and fostering a successful smaller learning community, providing teachers instructional support, and assisting with field trips, student recognition initiatives, and technology integration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned.
- Oversee all aspects of ninth grade discipline.
- Monitor ninth grade attendance, create Attendance Intervention Plans, and communicate with parents regarding attendance recovery.
- Monitor ninth graders' progress and create academic assistance plans with parents, students, and teachers.
- Observe personnel and provide feedback regularly to improve instruction.
- Assist the Principal and Assistant Principal of Instruction to implement the instructional vision of the District and school.
- Assist in coordinating support programs, such as the tutoring program Power Hour and mentoring programs to ensure students stay on grade level.
- Maintain the academy budget, order supplies, and process payroll.
- Coordinate special events for freshmen by coordinating busses, reviewing freshmen lists, coordinating dates, and communicating with faculty.
- Address parent concerns regarding instruction and facilitate meetings as appropriate between parents and teachers.
- Coordinate transition activities and meet with middle school administrators and teachers to ensure students’ schedules are optimal for success.
- Coordinate the remediation/credit recovery/attendace recovery programs in conjunction with the graduation coach to ensure students graduate on time.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Stay abreast of curriculum changes; attend regular curriculum meetings and other meetings at the District office.
- Create lunch and bus duty and schedules; schedule and facilitate afterschool programs including after school detention, work detail, student clubs and organizations, and test preparation boot camps.
- Recognize students for achievement in arts, athletics, and academics.
- Attend sporting events, prom, graduation, and other student related activities.
- Ensure 8th graders have the correct schedules.
- Assign duties to teachers.
- Facilitate freshman / teacher mentor program.
- Advise parents of their student’s academic progress.
- Plan and organize special events such as field day, and award ceremonies.
- Serve as the chair or a member of 4.0 and Induction teams.
- Implement safety drills on a regular basis and assist with safety procedures on a daily basis.
- Assist in the establishment of goals, objectives. and strategies to promote improvement in achievement, effective instruction, test scores, attendance, drop out rate, accreditation, school climate, discipline, parental and community support, and staff development.
- Assist with the development of a school improvement plan, as needed.
- Assist with the development and implementation of student IEP's, as needed.
- Attend expulsion hearings, as needed.
- Participate in staff development programs.
- Assist in management of the school facility; place work orders to Buildings and Grounds.
- Assist in writing Faculty and Student Handbooks.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by the Principal.
