POSITION OVERVIEW
TITLE: Special Education Work-Based Learning Teacher
LOCATION(S): T.L. Hanna High School (.5) & Westside High School (.5)
STATUS/FLSA: Full-Time/Exempt
PAY SCHEDULE/GROUP: Teacher
SUPERVISOR: Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 Days. Salary determined by schedule set by the Board.
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the Principal.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Work with students, teachers, and parents to develop appropriate transition work experiences for students with disabilities working towards a South Carolina High School Credential. Work within the community to establish WBL and Internship locations, aligned to student transition goals.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college
EXPERIENCE: 5 years successful special education teaching experience
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- REQUIRED: Valid certification in special education
- PREFERRED: Multicategorical certification
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Essential job duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties assigned.
Develops and provides a wide variety of career related activities and tasks in order to meet student transition requirements.
- Understands and utilizes appropriate assessment tools to monitor student progress and outcomes.
- Engages and collaborates with community resources to secure job training and internship experiences.
- Collaborates with school teachers, support staff, transportation, parents, and others to coordinate work experiences.
- Assists guidance counselors and special education case managers with monitoring student work based learning hours and internships.
- Assists teachers with appropriate employability curriculum and instruction.
- Monitors state requirements for all South Carolina high school exit options, keeping district and school staff informed.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Meet monthly with district Special Education Leadership to review work based learning experiences, internship opportunities, and student progress.
- Attend select IEP meetings on an as-needed basis.
- Facility Memorandums of Agreement (MOA) between District and work experience locations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
In-depth knowledge on federal and state transition requirements for students with disabilities. Ability to professionally represent Anderson School District Five in the community with employers, parents, agencies, and others. Strong time-management skills. Ability to perform tasks independently, with minimal supervision. Strong technology, social media, and data collection skills.
