COMMERCIAL TRUCK DRIVER JOB DESCRIPTION
Commercial Truck Driver Responsibilities Include:
- Drive a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). Will be required to unload truck. Requires commercial drivers’ license.
- Transporting finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centers
- Inspecting vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues
- Planning routes and meeting delivery schedules
- Document and log work/rest periods and miles spent driving
- Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
- Collect and verify delivery instructions
- Report defects, accidents or violations
Job Brief
We are looking for an experienced Truck Driver to serve our supply chain logistics department in a safe and timely manner.
Requirements and Skills
- Proven work experience as a Commercial Truck Driver
- Hands on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS, ELD)
- Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly
- Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations
- No recent moving or driving violations
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions etc)
- Willing to submit to background/drug checks and provide employment recommendations
- Valid commercial driving licence
1) SAFETY
Must at all times operate his equipment in a safe Manner. He must inspect his equipment to ensure that it is in proper operating condition.
2) THE LOAD
Driver is responsible for inspecting his load, prior to moving his equipment, to ensure that it can be moved without damage to the goods he is transporting. If the load is not in proper condition he must correct the problem or notify his supervisor prior to moving out. Includes transfers. Driver should check to make sure he has the right load and is able to get to the first couple of stops. Check for pallet jack.
3) ACCOUNTING FOR THE GOODS IN HIS CARE
The driver is responsible for counting all goods to ensure they match the delivery invoice. Any damaged goods must be dealt with. Corrections and notation on the drivers’ documents are required in accordance with current company policies. THE DRIVER HAS THE LAST LOOK!!!
4) THE CUSTOMER
T.M. Cobb/Haley Bros drivers are required to have a clean-cut appearance and wear approved clothing.
Our drivers are considered to be part of our sales team and as such must get along well with our customers. Drivers are required to report any problems with customer personnel. Drivers will be required to report information back to his supervisor.
5) RETURNED GOODS
Are to be picked up in accordance with company policies. When “pick ups” are made, the driver is required to note the quantity and condition of such goods with great care. He must place the goods on his truck in a way that will not result in damage to undamaged goods or additional damage to damaged goods.
6) YOUR VEHICLE
Drivers are NOT to operate any unsafe vehicle. Drivers are to inspect and operate their vehicles in accordance with federal and state laws. You will be required to keep the inside of your cab clean and orderly. You will be required to check your oil, water and tires (visual and thump) each day and to fuel when needed
7) YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE
You are responsible for keeping a valid drivers license, which is to include a current D.O.T physical, and keeping the insurance points down in regards to accidents, tickets, etc. This includes your personal vehicle.
