Overview

This position contributes to the production environment of T. Marzetti – Sister Schubert’s Luverne, by ensuring the cleaning and sanitizing of all areas of the plant, production machinery and equipment, on a daily basis.  Also, by coordinating scheduled tasks with team members. Also, is responsible for ensuring Safety of all and safe work practices and environment, reaching Plant goals with excellent quality, and completion of tasks.


Responsibilities

  • Practices & promotes integrity, respect, accountability, continuous improvement and positive interactions with all Team Members and visitors.
  • Must understand and comply with all BRC required policies, procedures and documentation.
  • Responsible for following all LOTO procedures for machines as well as insuring all employees are flowing all safety process and procedures.
  • Ensures completion of Sanitation responsibilities daily.
  • Performs routine plant audits and sanitation inspection of equipment and recommends maintenance/repair needs for correction in order to comply with sanitation practices in accordance to State and federal sanitation laws, and plant standards.
  • Updates sanitation procedures and practices (SSOP) per company policies and recommends adjustments to schedules, procedures, and sanitation practices to QA Manager for review.
  • Manages the correct washing and sanitizing of all processing equipment, pumps, blenders and transfer lines or machine blocks, hoppers, feed tubes & hoses.
  • Managers the cleaning of the entire processing workstation including tables, conveyor chains, floors, walls, air filter hoses and dust collectors, drop cards, air and electric drops, check weighs, scales and wall mounted items such as fire extinguishers, sinks, soap and paper towel dispensers, and the sanitizing of all filling equipment including but not limited to hoppers, feed tubes, vibrator feeders, drop tubes, filler hoppers, augers, plastic curtains in processing rooms and production areas.
  • Properly operate CIP sanitizing equipment.
  • Oversees the cleaning of debris and refuse from interior & exterior of plant and empties and all trash receptacles in plant.
  • Supervises all assigned sanitation employees and carries out those responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Occasionally operates forklift and pallet jackets following successful attainment of TMHC forklift certification.
  • Oversee the sanitizing of all floors by using floor scrubbers, vacuums, air hoses and mops.
  • Adheres to company policies, procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, Code of Safe Practices, Standard Operating Procedures and Lockout/Tagout Procedures.
  • Regular Attendance is required in accordance with Company attendance policy and procedures.
  • Performs other duties / responsibilities as assigned by Management.
  • Complete initial/annual training to ensure the individual is properly qualified to perform all

required job tasks as outlined in training programs/records.

Supervisor Specific Functions:

  • Works respectfully with all team members to ensure the Safety, Quality, production and support of our products and goals daily.
  • Actively participates in Marzetti Operational Excellence, special projects or tasks, and modification programs as needed with prior approval.
  • Actively participates in department/shift/team meetings and is involved with improvement/resolutions & follow-up.
  • Maintains highest standard of Safety for all functions on an ongoing basis and ensures compliance for self and others to OSHA standards, company policies and procedures.
  • Performs daily inspection of all PPE required including but not limited to SLIP-RESISTANT/STEEL-TOED SHOES, hairnet, and beard net (in necessary) to ensure good overall condition of items that provide optimal personal safety & protection while working in the facility.
  • Performs daily inspection of power equipment with proper documentation. In accordance with OSHA standards, company policies and procedures. As they apply for this position. 
  • As a member of the T. Marzetti Company, completes his/her Behavior Based Safety Observations (BBSO), corrects issues when identified, and participates in problem solving. 
  • Manages all documentation/reporting for the Sanitation department
  • Coordinate & follow Master Sanitize Schedule daily.
  • Coordinates with other shifts & departments on all aspects of safety, quality, receiving, processing, packaging, shipping, sanitation, and maintenance.
  • Provides support for the Sanitation Manager in maintaining continuous production.
  • Reports any issues to Management immediately.
  • Fills in for the Sanitation Manager when necessary.
  • Quality:
  • Follow Company standards for cleanliness, food and equipment safety and efficient productivity.
  • As a member of the T. Marzetti Company, completes his/her Behavior Based Quality observations (BBQs), corrects issues when identified and participates in problem solving. 
  • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety / HACCP, FSMA, Food Defense, 5S, OSHA and other support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
  • Maintain production-packaging area in compliance with quality standards.
  • Teamwork:
  • Effectively communicates verbally and in writing with employees and Management
  • Works respectfully with all employees to meet safety, quality, and production standards and support of our products and goals daily.
  • Follow and oversee the proper observance of all company policies including but not limited to Attendance, Non-Harassment policy, Non-Violence policy, Drug Free (Substance Free) Workplace, Ethical Practices, etc.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; an associate degree is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of HACCP is required. 
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in an automated food processing plant.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from employees, managers, and clients.
  • Knowledge in BRC preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment requiring repetitive work preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively – verbally & written – and work well with Team Members and Management
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and good math skills are helpful.                                             
  • Ability to read & interpret written & verbal direction while working in a safe, effective & productive manner within a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior forklift experience preferred.

Working Conditions/Environment

Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, sit, stand, walk, reach, lift and bend while moving about the facility.  Must be able to move 75 pounds 25 feet or more.  Must be able to stand for a 10-hour shift (sometimes longer) with two paid 15-minute breaks and one unpaid 30-minute meal period. May be required to work overtime and/or weekends. The employee is regularly exposed to heat, fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, moving parts/equipment and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the plant is loud.  Earplugs, Steel toe shoes and hairnets are required in the plant in accordance with company GMP and safety standards.
