What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Business Development position at T-REX?
T-REX is a nonprofit tech hub and startup incubator based in downtown St. Louis. We help early-stage companies get off the ground and give big, ambitious ideas the space, tools, and backing they need to grow. We focus on tech innovation in all forms—from software to hardware, civic tech to startups solving real-world problems.
We’re not here for buzzwords or vanity projects—we’re here to build real momentum for St. Louis. That means creating opportunity, fueling homegrown talent, and making sure innovation isn’t just something that happens on the coasts.
If you care about doing smart, scrappy, meaningful work that pushes a city forward—we want to work with you.
We’re looking for a Business Development Assistant Director who’s not just good at closing deals—but who cares about what those deals do for the city. You’ll help us find new funding, build meaningful partnerships, and bring in the kinds of opportunities that put St. Louis entrepreneurs on the map.
You’ll work closely with our CEO to shape and chase bold ideas—things that grow the region’s innovation ecosystem, bring investment into the urban core, and give underestimated founders a fighting chance. It’s a creative role. A relationship-driven role. A strategy-meets-sweat kind of role.
• Base Salary: $60,000–$75,000 (depending on experience)
• Bonus: Performance-based, tied to growth milestones, partnerships, and revenue goals
• Work side-by-side with the CEO to push big-picture goals, chase new opportunities, and keep the mission sharp and ambitious.
• Hunt for smart growth, whether it’s funding, partnerships, programs, or visibility. If it helps our startups or strengthens the ecosystem, it’s worth the chase.
• Tell T-REX’s story in a way that resonates. Whether you're talking to a funder, a potential partner, or someone new to our work, you'll help people connect to our mission and understand why this work matters.
• Build and nurture relationships—with funders, partners, city leaders, and innovators. People power this place, and your ability to connect and follow through will be key.
• Dig into trends and intel—figure out what’s working, what’s next, and how we can stay one step ahead.
• Stay plugged into St. Louis. Show up at the events, shake the hands, and represent T-REX like you mean it.
• Have 7–10 years of experience in business development, fundraising, economic development, or similar roles where you’ve built partnerships and closed meaningful deals.
• Know how to communicate clearly, write persuasively, and present ideas with confidence and heart.
• Thrive in scrappy, flexible environments where no two days are the same.
• Know your way around startups, innovation, or civic impact work (or are eager to learn fast).
• Believe that economic growth should be inclusive and rooted in community.
• Know St. Louis—or are excited to invest yourself here.
St. Louis has all the raw ingredients for greatness. Your job is to help turn those into real momentum—by bringing resources, relationships, and fresh energy into the mix. This is a chance to help shape the future of the city in a very real, very tangible way.
