Career Opportunity

We are looking for candidates to fill a Facilities Engineer position at our Wallops Island, Virginia, station. The Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) at Wallops Island requires support in management, engineering, operations, and technical expertise for the activation, operation, maintenance, and engineering of equipment, systems, and computer programs. This support is crucial for all Naval Sea Systems Command and Program Executive Office, Integrated Warfare Systems missions and projects conducted at SCSC. SCSC offers live and simulated integrated warfare capabilities in a net-centric maritime environment, aimed at developing, testing, evaluating, and conducting fleet operations and training for the warfighter.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide facility engineering support to SCSC.
• Design, review, and comment on drawings and specifications, including power distribution systems, cooling systems, alarm/monitors, and other built-in support equipment related to the installation and operation of combat system equipment.
• Coordinate with the Drafter to maintain utility distribution diagrams, including 400 Hz power, tactical 60 Hz power, Low-Temperature Demineralized Water, High-Temperature Demineralized Water, dry/compressed air, intercom, and the facility monitoring system.
• Support facility planning efforts according to current Navy Shore Facility Planning System guidance.

Travel

• This position includes a low level of travel.

Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Abilities Required

• A bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or structural engineering engineering.
• Three plus years of experience in construction, maintenance of facility equipment, utilities, power control systems, HVAC systems, and general building construction and management.
• Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office products and possess administrative skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Virginia Professional Engineer or Registered Architect License desired.

Qualifications

• Active DoD Secret security clearance is highly desired; however, candidates who are eligible to obtain and maintain one will be considered. If the selected candidate does not hold an active clearance, he/she will receive a contingent offer. A start date will be established once an interim Secret clearance is granted.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from various work locations.
• Must maintain the capability to communicate with their supervisor and/or manager when not in the office.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to frequently traverse stairs.
• Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling.
• Reaching, handling, using equipment, keyboards, and mobile devices.
• Ability to lift items weighing up to 20 lbs.
