POSITION OVERVIEW
The Tab Rec Executive Director is a member of the program staff who will oversee the operation of the Tab Recreation Sports Ministry (Tab Rec) and collaborate with church leadership to cast and implement a vision for the future of Tab Rec that addresses challenges identified in a recent ministry review. While the 100-year-old ministry is currently stable, the study revealed concerns about the ministry’s perceived identity, future community and congregational relevance, potential program expansion and financial stability with growth.
Tab Rec Executive Director will be supported by the previous (retiring) director as leadership responsibilities are transferred and a new Program Director position is filled. The Executive Director will be included in the process of hiring the new Program Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ministry Vision
- Provide leadership support to the Tab Rec Vision Team as they discern a vision for the long-term future of the Tab Rec ministry during a time of church leadership changes.
- Facilitate communication and creative problem-solving to address challenges identified in the original ministry review.
- Assist with research, data gathering and strategic planning to help implement the vision.
- Recommend programming and strategies to ensure ministry relevance and sustainability.
Relationship Development
- Collaborate with Tab’s Communications Director to promote Tab Recreation to the community, the congregation and our partners through various platforms including social media.
- Identify creative opportunities for Tab congregation members to volunteer and support Tab Rec. Encourage service in Tab Rec as an expression of living one’s faith.
- Ensure effective, relevant and timely communication with participant families, coaches, volunteers and officials, as well as Tab staff when appropriate. (e.g. events, training, rosters, schedules, coaches’ manuals, league rules, facility usage and newsletters.)
- Attend Tab Staff meetings weekly to provide ministry updates and seek opportunities for collaboration.
- Provide monthly updates to Tab Rec Committee.
- Seek opportunities for community partnerships and/collaboration to further Tab Rec’s impact in our neighborhood and the Northside of Indianapolis.
Staffing and Training
- Supervise employees and ensure that all programming is appropriately staffed
- Recruit, supervise and support quality league officials.
- Collaborate with the Program Director to recruit, train and encourage volunteer coaches who are of excellent character and exemplify the core values of Tab Rec.
- Ensure staff and key volunteers have appropriate training in Child Safety and Protection Policies, CPR and Basic Suicide/Mental Health Crisis Awareness.
- Schedule and ensure supervision for use of gym and field for “open gym for neighborhood youth” or by adult rental groups.
Program Leadership and Administration (in conjunction with Program Director)
- Develop the annual calendar of recreational programs and events.
- Negotiate partnerships for use of additional gyms, fields, camps etc. required for execution of the Rec programming.
- Establish detailed program plans and schedules for each sports season.
- Manage all aspects of player registration.
- Coordinate all aspects of team pictures (including photographer).
- Plan and execute recognition events as appropriate.

- Proven visionary and strategic-thinker, with ability to implement vision and/or changes
- Enjoyment of sports and appreciation of recreation league sports as ministry
- Personable with strong communication skills
- Accountable and able to hold others accountable – including staff and volunteers
- Resourceful and able to use current technology for communication and scheduling
- Skilled at organizing and planning, yet creative and flexible in response to unexpected changes and challenges
- Socially and culturally aware
- Self-motivated
- Calm presence, pastorally sensitive
ADA REQUIREMENTS
- Position requires physical stamina to stay in a stationary position for long periods of time or to move around the building or recreation facilities for several hours at a time.
- Position may require director to lift and/or move heavy sporting equipment.
EDUCATION
Preferred: Post-Secondary Education is strongly recommended
Consideration will be given for appropriate experience in lieu of formal education.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
