Senior Network Engineer - Service Provider
Job Details
The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for engineering planning, design, equipment evaluation, project management, installation specifications, lab certification of equipment and services, test & acceptance for existing and advanced networks to ensure cost effective enhancements and upgrades to meet network requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Adept at working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment to provide detailed network designs and complete complex projects on time and within budget.
- Engineer, test, and certify Service Provider solutions for delivering Carrier Grade Ethernet and IP solutions for Residential/FTTH, SMB, Enterprise, Wholesale, and Mobile Backhaul customers.
- Publish MOPs and EDPs for deployment, maintenance, patches, upgrades, and network augments.
- Minimize customer downtime and maximize customer experience through sane and sound engineering principles and disciplined change management best practices.
- Capacity planning and management at all levels of the network.
- Available for 24x7 third tier escalation for troubleshooting challenging network problems including coordination with equipment vendor TAC for root cause analysis.
- Effectively research and present technical material verbally and in written form to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide accurate documentation and training for NOC personnel.
- Evaluate and recommend relevant new technologies for improving performance and scaling the network.
- Well-rounded with respect to multi-vendor, multi-protocol networks.
- Experienced in delivering services such as Internet, L3VPN, and MEF compliant EPL/EVPL/ELAN.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree or related field and/or equivalent work experience
- 5 years’ experience in Service Provider network engineering
- Deep understanding and experience with Routing and Switching,
- Extensive knowledge and experience with essential protocols and tools such as
- BGP, OSPF, ISIS, BFD, LAG/LACP, MC-LAG, COS/QOS
- MPLS, Segment Routing/Traffic Engineering, EVPN
- VRRP, Anycast Gateways`
- SNMP, Syslog, DHCP/DNS, IPerf/Ookla
- CFM, y.1731, rfc-2544
- Solid understanding of GPON/XGS-PON, DWDM, WiFi gateways.
- Knowledgeable with respect to network security including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and AAA.
- Hands on experience with multiple equipment vendors and platforms such as Cisco NCS (IOS-XR), Ciena 39xx/51xx/81xx (SAOS 10), Nokia/Calix/Adtran/DZS OLTs/ONTs, Fortinet Firewalls including SDWan.
- Familiarity with Smartoptics or similar DWDM Transport systems,
- Competent with relevant systems and tools such as Circuit Vision (or other network/circuit inventory systems), Solarwinds, Zabbix, Ciena MCP/Navigator, Microsoft Office Suite including Visio.
- Nice to have Python scripting
