Hours: 30-40 hours/week, variable

GENERAL FUNCTION: As a key member of the Day Room Coordination team, this Peer Support Specialist serves as an ambassador and facilitator in the Day Room—an inclusive and welcoming space where individuals with intellectual, developmental, physical, and behavioral health disabilities come to connect, engage socially, and build community.
Day Room Co-Coordinators play a vital role in cultivating a peer-led environment that is safe, supportive, and engaging. They prepare and open the space each day, ensure peer volunteers are available to assist, and facilitate meaningful activities that encourage connection and participation. Through their presence, lived experience, and active engagement, they empower participants to take an active role in their wellness and social experiences while upholding the values of peer support.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
As a member of the Day Room Team, each Co-Coordinator is expected to:
- Be prepared to provide the first point of contact with new participants.
- Provide a consistent, accepting, empowering presence with participants.
- Ensure individual participants sign in or are signed in daily.
- Utilize the principles of the Recovery and Peer Model to guide interactions when working with others.
- Work effectively, patiently, and respectfully with a wide variety of individuals with disabilities.
- Understand the rights of people with disabilities and be able to recognize potential situations of abuse.
- Model and support appropriate adult social skills in all environments.
- Understand the need for flexibility when working in this environment.
- Communicate any changes, problems, or critical information immediately to the Wellness & Recovery Director or Program Manager.
- Work with the other Co-Coordinator to:
- Plan and coordinate activities and events in collaboration with the other Day Room Coordinator
- Clean, organize, and prepare the Day Room daily.
- Communicate timely and effectively with Wellness & Recovery Program Director and staff regarding updates of projects, questions, and concerns as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with, be respectful of, and be near individuals with a wide array of cognitive, mental health, physical, and sensory disabilities.
- Ensure activities are planned and associated materials are stocked.
- Attend community meetings and events as requested representing TACID.
- Perform other job functions as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of Certified Peer Counselor certification within six months of hire.
