Position Summary
The Welder B performs a variety of routine welding duties. They typically operate subarc machines to complete circumferential and longitudinal welds on tanks, heat exchanger shells and nozzles. This role welds using gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and flux cored arc welding (FCAW) processes on fillet joints and groove joints without backing.

Position Summary
The Welder B performs a variety of routine welding duties. They typically operate subarc machines to complete circumferential and longitudinal welds on tanks, heat exchanger shells and nozzles. This role welds using gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and flux cored arc welding (FCAW) processes on fillet joints and groove joints without backing.
Measures of success:
- Full understanding of relevant Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and the ability to follow all parameters within.
- Timely completion of all welding operations within the operational time limits and according to Taco’s quality protocols.
- Capability of fillet and groove welds with the use of backing in both the horizontal and flat positions.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Works from standard drawings, specifications, WPS and verbal instructions.
- Uses various types of welding equipment and a variety of common hand and power tools.
- Performs standardized work welding tanks and heat exchanger shells using the submerged arc welding (SAW) process, with backing, in the flat position.
- Performs routine standardized work, welding sub-assemblies and other components using the FCAW/GMAW welding process, with backing, in the flat and horizontal position.
- Reads and interprets simple drawings and performs simple layouts.
- With assistance and supervision, may perform more complicated welding using various equipment.
- Reads appropriate Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and is capable of interpreting welding variables and assures that all parameters within the WPS are adhered to.
- Monitors quality of work, makes corrective adjustments and reports equipment malfunctions, defective materials or other unusual conditions to supervisor.
- Maintains necessary records, completes transactions within the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and accesses company intranet as needed for work instructions.
- Maintains work area in neat, clean, and orderly condition and observes all safety regulations and practices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to pass American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section IX welding tests with the following variables:
- FCAW/GMAW and SAW processes
- Steel-steel, steel-stainless, stainless-stainless material
- Flat and horizontal positions
- With backing
- 1 year of experience with manual or machine welding
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and effectively apply to assigned work
- Ability to navigate multiple windows in company ERP system to access production and resource data
- Ability to perform repetitive work requiring constant alertness or activity, including standing and lifting
- Ability to manage time effectively to meet strict time deadlines and production volumes
- Requires judgment to comply with instructions, prescribed routines, methods and practices
- Minimal/no travel required
