What are the responsibilities and job description for the Roofing Field Supervisor position at Tactical Roofing Company?
Position Description:
· Assists in scheduling, supervises, and coordinates activities of installation crews engaged in roofing installations with roofing materials (75% Shingle, 5% metal, 5% tile, 15% rolled roofing, and various commercial roofing types)
o Ensures procedures are followed by all installers
o Serves as a site safety representative
o Performs quality control checks on the progress of installations and at the completion of the installation
o Provides direction and guidance on best practices to all installers
o Is responsible for overall performance and quality of installations
o Picks up materials as needed for wood replacement or material shortages
o Ensures all installations are per contract (shingle and drip edge color, ventilation type and quantity, gutters, etc.)
· Meets with inspectors as required to perform in-progress inspections and final inspections
o Prints permit packets and posts on site, picks up permit packets after approval
o Performs corrections as required to ensure all inspections are approved
· Performs leak investigations and repairs as needed
· Coordinates, schedules, and completes trailer pick-up and delivery, dump, and identification/communication/coordination of trailer maintenance needs
Major Areas of Responsibility:
· Supervises and coordinates the work of one or two daily roofing crews consisting of 3-7 roofers
· Ensures that all details of the job are performed to specifications and all work is completed
· Maintains contact with Operations Director (face-to-face, cell phone, text, email, etc.) and others to coordinate work between the company, clients, and the roofing crew
· Establishes and maintains positive relationships with clients, maintaining contact to explain procedures, solicit feedback, seek necessary approvals, and resolve complaints (escalate as necessary to keep leadership involved with issues)
· Performs administrative activities including approving material orders, handling job-related paperwork, permit and NOC paperwork, and performing day-to-day administrative tasks
· Monitors, controls, and secures tools, materials, and other work-related resources
· Schedules work locations and assign crew duties as appropriate
· Supervises, trains, coaches and otherwise develop new workers
· Enforces compliance with safety rules and the use of safety equipment on the work site and ensures that protective gear, guards for hazardous situations, ensures required first air is maintained on site
· Provide clear, detailed instructions to workers about assigned tasks
· Handles any conflicts, complaints, grievances, and otherwise negotiates with internal and external personnel, escalates as necessary to include leadership
· Complies with all applicable local, state, and federal laws (OSHA requirements)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· The ability to speak, read, and write in English
· Knowledge of roofing materials and installation procedures
· Knowledge of tool use and maintenance
· Ability to safely operate a vehicle, possess a valid state-issued driver’s license, and insurable driving history
· Excellent communication skills with workers and clients
· Ability to use a computer and perform basic computing and spreadsheet functions
Education and Experience:
· High School diploma
· Valid US driver’s license
· Minimum three years of work experience in roofing and/or construction and repair
Physical Requirements:
The job requires physical activities involving movement of the whole body, the ability to climb ladders, maneuver in attics, withstand the heat of summer on roofs, and lift heavy objects (in excess of 25 pounds) as required.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous tools and equipment (such as cutters, shingle knives, hammers, drills, power saws, and nail guns), moving mechanical parts, and vehicles. The position requires the employee to be exposed to high places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Work typically occurs outdoors and exposes the employee to heat cold, moisture, wind, rain, and direct sunlight.
Pay and Compensation:
· The base hourly pay rate is $20-$30 hourly
· The company will pay 50% (up to $300/month) towards employee’s healthcare (currently available from open market providers)
· Use of company truck and fuel card for all work-related activities
· 10 days paid vacation, accrued at 1.54 hours per pay period starting after 90 days probation.
