Director, Dental Hygiene

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction, the Director will direct, plan, coordinate, supervise and evaluate the Associate Degree and Baccalaureate Degree Dental Hygiene programs, in accordance with state and federal codes and regulations, District policies and procedures, the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), and the Dental Hygiene Board of California (DHBC). Supervise the maintenance and custody of Dental Hygiene program student records. Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed.
- Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned activities and operations;
- Recommend and administer policies, procedures, and programs;
- Participate in long-range planning activities;
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise the operations of the Dental Hygiene programs;
- Schedule and staff all dental hygiene classes and clinics;
- Arrange for supervision of all clinics by a licensed dentist;
- Maintain compliance with requirements of the Dental Hygiene Board of California;
- Lead faculty in curriculum planning and annual review and assessment;
- Develop and maintain relationships and articulation agreements with appropriate four-year degree programs;
- Supervise, collaborate, and participate with the Vice President and program faculty and staff to develop student selection process;
- Select incoming students;
- Participate in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of assigned faculty and staff;
- Supervise assigned personnel in accordance with District policy;
- Provide or coordinate training for staff;
- Participate in the evaluation of classified and certificated staff and faculty;
- Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the Dental Hygiene program's annual budget(s);
- Participate in the forecast of funds / expenditures; monitor and approve expenditures;
- Implement budget and operational adjustments;
- Supervise and monitor the ordering and maintenance of all clinical and laboratory supplies and equipment;
- Oversee the maintenance of clinical equipment;
- Prepare periodic accreditation reports and required annual surveys for the Commission on Dental Accreditation;
- Submit requested information and reports to the Dental Hygiene Board of California;
- Facilitate regular meetings of the college CTE Dental Advisory Committee;
- Facilitate regular departmental meetings of faculty and staff;
- Maintain membership that is active and representative of the community;
- Represent the college and the Dental Hygiene programs to other departments and outside agencies;
- Coordinate assigned activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations;
- Maintain interprofessional relationships;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range for the position is a Grade 19 on the Educational & Classified Administrator Salary Schedule with a range of $122,000-$139,884 per year. This is a fulltime, 12-month position. This position is eligible for participation in West Kern Community College District's comprehensive fringe benefits program that includes District paid medical, dental and vision coverage for employees and their dependents, as well as a generous vacation plan. Employees are eligible for membership in the appropriate California employee retirement systems.
