Description
Tahoe Donner Association is looking for Greenskeepers to join our Golf Maintenance Team! The Greenskeeper position is responsible for supporting the Golf Course Superintendent in all aspects of maintaining the Golf Course grounds, associated landscaped areas, associate work areas, and related facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Mows Greens, tees, fairways and other turf areas; checks greens for disease, thatch, moisture content or any other condition that might cause damage to greens; removes dew from greens on non-mowing days.
- Uses verticutters to remove thatch from greens; aerates and/or over-seeds greens, tees and fairways; cultivates, fertilizes, prunes and waters, turf, plants and trees.
- Plants and maintains turf, shrubs, trees, and other groundcovers; removes and replaces damaged sod sections.
- Sprays ornamentals, aquatics, greens, tees, and fairway turf areas; top-dresses green and tee areas applies herbicides, insecticides and fungicides as directed.
- Sets pins and tee markers; inspects greens, tees, fairways and other landscaped areas to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Drives and operates Association vehicles; operates various hand tools and power equipment such as mowers, edgers, aerators, sod cutters, rototillers, saws, trimmers, chemical sprayers, shredders and sweepers.
- Installs, repairs and operates irrigation systems; cleans and performs minor maintenance on golf course activities and prepares related reports.
- Communicates with a wide variety of members, guests, general public and employees in the course of work; enforces rules and regulations to protect the public and the environment.
- Assist with the training of lower greenskeepers, inspects and reviews the work of greenskeepers.
- Performs a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled tasks.
- May supervise lower greenskeeper personnel

- Management and horticulture practices
- Fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and proper usage in maintaining golf course grounds
- Rules, regulations and policies governing County golf course operations
- Irrigation system controls and operation
- Contemporary office equipment, computer applications
- Effective techniques of written and oral communication
- Techniques and methods of conflict resolution
- First Aid and CPR procedures
- Basic elements of employee supervision
Ability to:
- Use and service of hand tools and power equipment used in golf course greens and grounds maintenance
- Safely apply fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals
- Deal tactfully and effectively with the public and work cooperatively with others
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Learn the rules, regulations, policies and laws governing the operation of County golf courses
- Follow safety rules and work in a safe manner
- Learn First Aid, CPR and use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Perform medium to heavy physical labor
- Operate vehicles and light maintenance equipment
- Maintain accurate records and complete standardized reports
- Supervise and evaluate the work of others as assigned
Greenskeeper II
These skills and abilities are typically acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent and two years’ related work experience; or an equivalent combination of formal training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform all of the duties of the position.
