Supervisory Responsibilities

Summary
Responsible for all aspects of day-to-day unit operations within the ICU and MedSurg Unit.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Leads all aspects of daily unit operations for the ICU and MedSurg Unit, ensuring the delivery of the highest levels of clinical quality and customer service to the patients in the most cost-effective manner.
- Responsible for supervision over all Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), Unit Clerks (UCs)/ Telemetry Monitor Technicians, and Transport personnel.
- The Patient Care Tech (PCT) Supervisor ensures the appropriate hospitalist provider is assigned to the hospitalist patients in epic.
- Communicates throughout the day with physicians and care team to ensure optimal coordination in the delivery of medical services to each patient.
- Interviews, assists with training, and supervises all PCT/ UC/ transport staff.
- Assigns and balances schedules for both ICU and MedSurg.
- Provides oversight of Preceptor program in coordination with the Manager of ICU/ MedSurg.
- Assists Manager of ICU/ MedSurg and Director of Nursing with the Just Culture process and employee termination as needed.
- Ensures adequate daily staffing based on patient census.
- Conducts probationary and annual performance reviews of all PCTs/ UCs/ transporters in conjunction with the Manager of ICU/ MedSurg.
- Performs timekeeping process and payroll for assigned staff.
- Implements operational changes in ICU/ MedSurg as directed by the Manager of ICU/ MedSurg.
- Serves as the ICU/ MedSurg representative on committees, task forces, or project teams as directed by the Manager of ICU/ MedSurg, and completes or coordinates tasks delegated as a result of such representation.
- Ensures regulatory compliance and survey readiness for ICU and MedSurg.
- Participates in quality initiatives set by the Quality Department and Leadership.
- Coordinates with Nurse Leads and the Manager of ICU/ MedSurg to ensure accurate and timely charge capture, compliance, and optimal revenue cycle management for ICU and MedSurg.
- Assists the Manager of ICU/ MedSurg with coordinating the operational aspects of patient care admissions, length of stay, patient status, and discharges.
- Resolves customer complaints or forwards them to the Manager of ICU/ MedSurg as appropriate.
- Serves as the site specialist for all computer software used to manage department operations.
- Educates staff on optimal use of the software and troubleshoots issues, coordinating with IT staff as needed.
- Orders medical and offices supplies for ICU and MedSurg.
- Monitors staffing and expenditures for budgetary compliance and provides justification to the Manager of ICU/ MedSurg regarding necessary staff overtime or unbudgeted expenditures.
- Monitors and manages the Workqueues in coordination with the Manager of ICU/ MedSurg.
- Works with Nurse Leads and management team to ensure accurate and timely charge capture as well as optimal revenue cycle management.
- Participates in quarterly operations review of practice.
- Maintains all PCT/ UC/ transport competencies.
- Performs PCT duties, monitors continuous telemetry strips/ pulse oximetry, performs unit clerk duties, and functions as transport when needed.
- Participates in department quality improvement program.
- Monitors and maintains all department records and documentation.
- Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
- Complies with System policies and procedures.

Required:
- A willingness to be trained on-the-job in duties not previously learned is essential.
- Knowledge of medical terminology required, as well as familiarity with medical documents and medical chart components.
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a telemetry monitor technician in a hospital setting, working with patients, and handling charts.
- Experienced with cardiac rhythms and comfortability to perform telemetry educational classes for new hires.
- Expert in vital sign recognition to educate new hires on identifying patients requiring prompt notification to the nursing team.
- Acts as primary preceptor to all new hire PCTs, Monitor Tech/ Unit Clerks, and Transport positions.
