Summary
Responsible for safely performing specialized clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations. Is competent in the use of all modern diagnostic MRI equipment and exams to include: contrast studies, MR angiography, neurography, chest, abdominal, and musculoskeletal imaging. Assists radiologists and other physicians with a wide range of procedures, assuring comfort and safety for the patient. Has the knowledge to respond to emergent and life threatening situations. Upholds a high level of quality in patient care and technical skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Correctly identifies patients by name, wrist identifiers, date of birth, etc.
- Prepares patients for examinations, explains the procedure and answers patient’s questions.
- Positions and scans patients in MRI department, selecting proper technical factors and protocols to obtain good quality scans.
- Assists physicians by doing venipuncture and administering contrast media.
- Assists patients who are physically limited.
- Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis and demonstrates skill and knowledge in the use of all MRI equipment.
- Thoroughly explains procedure to be performed to facilitate patient cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety.
- Ensures that all exams performed are charge, filmed, archived, and sent properly.
- Notifies nursing staff with inpatient screening information and scanning times.
- Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures as required.
- Checks calibration of equipment daily to assure proper operation.
- Reviews supply and accessory inventory and stocks supplies as needed.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Routinely prepares examinations for interpretation by the radiologist to include correct identification and processing of films, adequate clinical history, and previous scans or x-rays for comparison.
- Assists front office personnel with the scheduling and preparation required for examinations.
- Maintains adequate records.
- Secures and returns supplies.

Minimum Education/Experience
Certificate of completion from college or vocational school.
Successful completion of Radiologic Technologist Program (College or Institutional Program) approved by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). The college program will grant a minimum of an Associate’s Degree (A.S.) or Radiologic Technology program or equivalent.
Three (3) or more years of relevant experience.

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)- Upon Hire (Either ARRT or AMRIT will satisfy requirement)

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers - Upon Hire
BLS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI), Basic Life Support (BLS) Entry, or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS certification) - within 3 months of hire into job.
Other Experience/Qualifications
Required:
- ARRT certified Technologist required with a minimum of two years of current experience working in MRI in a hospital setting.
- For ARMRIT MRI Technologist completion of the program with current certification through ARMRIT minimum of two years working in MRI in a hospital setting.
- Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and MRI physics.
Preferred:
- 3T experience
