Summary
Under the direct supervision of department manager, the Therapy Services Technician II is responsible for transporting, preparing, positioning, and in general assisting patients and therapists in the successful completion of the treatment plan. Performs a variety of office and clerical duties for the smooth and efficient running of the therapy department. Therapies include Physical, Occupational and Speech. The Therapy Services Technician II is committed to assist in the provision of high quality health care services and to accommodate the changing needs of the various communities that Tahoe Forest Hospital serves.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Effectively utilizes appropriate resources to ensure sensitive, personal care to individuals who require therapy services.
- Transports patient to and from the Therapy Department treating areas.
- Prepares the patient and necessary equipment for the prescribed Therapy treatment.
- Assists with training and competency skills checklist for new technician staff members.
- Orders department related supplies, with approval from manager.
- Assists manager with technician scheduling to ensure department is sufficiently staffed.
- Assists the therapist in positioning patients, administering treatments, and supporting patients during ambulation, exercise, gait training and other physical activities.
- Obtains equipment, materials and supplies from storage areas and prepares them for appropriate use.
- Maintains the Therapy Department in a clean and orderly condition.
- Cleans equipment.
- Assists patients in dressing, undressing and donning treatment garments and aids.
- Observes patients during treatments and informs therapist of any patient distress or malfunctioning equipment.
- Changes linens on beds and treatment tables.
- Participates in peer feedback to improve performance of line of service.
- Seeks clarification of duties when needed.
- Channels suggestions, criticisms and questions to appropriate personnel.
- Extends courtesy and consideration for others in interpersonal relationships.
- Maintains inventory of supplies, performs requisition of supplies under direction of manager.
- Performs preventative maintenance checks.
- Performs annual calibrations of equipment (pinch gauges, hand dynamometer).
- Prepares pool daily for treatments, stocks and maintains pool linens, assists pool therapists with patients as needed (Truckee only).
- Orders and maintains stock of clinical equipment and supplies.
- Serves as a primary contact for hospital communication regarding the clinic.
- Trains and monitors new aides in proper body mechanics for exercises and patient care.
- Performs annual clinic safety checks.
- Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
- Complies with System policies and procedures
- Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience
No educational requirement
1 - 2 years of relevant experience
Required Licenses/Certifications
BLS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS certification). - Within 3 months of hire into job
Other Experience/Qualifications
Required:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
Preferred:
- Bachelors degree in a related field
