Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. The DSP will work closely with clients in various settings, including group homes, memory care facilities, and home health environments.
Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Support individuals in developing life skills and achieving personal goals.
- Provide companionship and engage clients in social activities to enhance their quality of life.
- Monitor client behavior and report any changes or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Ensure the rights of residents are respected and upheld at all times.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment for clients.
- Assist with medication management as needed, following prescribed guidelines.
- Lift and transfer clients safely when necessary, using proper techniques to prevent injury.
- Participate in training sessions to stay updated on best practices in care, including dementia care and memory care techniques.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in social work or related fields is a plus.
- Experience in home health, home care, or group home settings preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of resident rights and advocacy for individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist clients with mobility challenges.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
- Compassionate nature with a commitment to providing high-quality care.
- Basic cooking skills to prepare nutritious meals for clients as needed.
- Willingness to undergo background checks and training as required by the organization.
