Retirement Operations Specialist
Location: WFH but must live within 35 miles of Columbus, OH or Scottsdale, AZ
Pay: $19/hr
Schedule: Regular business hours, 40 hours per week
Anticipated Start Date: 05/19/2025
Role Summary:
Provides prompt, accurate, and efficient service related to retirement plan distribution processing for public sector clients. Specializes in resolving "Not In Good Order" (NIGO) financial transactions by reviewing documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and facilitating the correction of errors through proactive communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews and processes retirement plan "Money Out" requests (e.g., withdrawals, rollovers, RMDs) while ensuring documentation is in good order and compliant with federal regulations and plan provisions.
- Responds to inquiries from customers, plan participants, financial advisors, and internal departments through both oral and written communication.
- Identifies and resolves NIGO issues by working with clients and advisors to obtain missing or corrected documentation.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of retirement plan rules, distribution processing systems, and applicable federal and state regulations (e.g., IRS guidelines for qualified plans).
- Accurately performs monetary transactions within assigned authority limits and escalates more complex scenarios to senior specialists as needed.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; Recent degree in finance, business, insurance, economics, or communications preferred
Experience: Three years work experience with two years product-related customer service work experience preferred.
Skills:
- Knowledge of general office practices, customer service, office equipment, and familiarity with insurance/financial services industry practices (e.g., annuities, mutual funds).
- Strong problem-solving skills, basic mathematics, and proficiency in office filing systems and recordkeeping procedures.
- Effective written and oral communication skills for interacting with customers, team members, and management, along with the ability to prioritize tasks.
