The Tailwind Group Summer Intern Program allows students or recent grads to gain real world experience in their area of interest and understand its function within the student housing industry - all while making a true impact on our business.
This internship term will run from May 26th - August 15th, working a standard 40 hour work week. Our program includes:

The Position: The Investments Intern is primarily responsible for supporting the Investments Team in conducting market research, developing efficiencies and templates, and contributing to the growth of the Tailwind Group portfolio. A successful Investments Intern will effectively communicate with other departments, remain organized while supporting multiple projects and initiatives, and have a desire to develop professionally within the industry.
This is an in-office position working out of our Excelsior, MN, corporate office. The pay rate for this position is $18/hr.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Model and cascade Tailwind Group’s five core values: Entrepreneurial, Versatile, Responsive, Innovative, and Integrity.
- Creatively research industry trends, conduct competitor analysis, and supply-chain effects that will inform investment recommendations.
- Prepare presentation materials, including debt and equity offerings.
- Support the team’s efforts to develop efficient reporting strategies including automation and simplification of reporting processes.
- Work with senior investment professionals to learn how to underwrite, structure, and execute investments.
- Synthesize large amounts of disparate information regarding each investment opportunity.
- Assist with asset management assignments such as tracking financial performance, leasing, and capital projects.
- Communicate professionally with brokers, developers, sellers, investment partners, and senior members of the team, inclusive of the investment committee.
- Maintain and enhance existing reports when necessary.
- Perform sensitivity and scenario analysis on debt key variables including interest rates, occupancy, and more.
- Collaborate with the finance team with annual budget planning preparation and development.
- Provide support with cash flow projections and analysis.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent and working towards a Degree in Finance, Real Estate, or related field.
- Must be a rising senior or a recent graduate at time of internship.
- An interest in investment banking and/or in-house real estate investing and acquisitions.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, demonstrated ability to perform a quantitative and qualitative analysis of assets using financial modeling techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively define and resolve problems that balance multiple needs and interests.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to present ideas, instructions, and information effectively, both orally and in writing.
- General understanding of financial statements (e.g. balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement).
- A passion for all things real estate, an agility and ability to adapt to changing and ambiguous situations, and a general hunger for more.
