Collections Specialist
Reports to: Collections Manager
A Claims Collections Specialist is responsible for managing and collecting outstanding balances from insurance companies for services related to substance use disorders. This role involves working closely with patients, insurance companies, and providers to ensure that all payments are collected in a timely manner, any payer denials/rejections are worked and followed up on to exhaustion or payment of services.
The job responsibilities of a Claims Collections Specialist include:
Communicating with patients to explain insurance correspondence received, billing statements and payment options.
Verifying patient insurance coverage and eligibility for treatment services to ensure coverage of claims billed.
Collaborating with management to ensure accurate billing and coding for services billed.
Following up with patients regarding payment obligations and overdue balances.
Coordinating with insurance companies to ensure timely payment for services rendered.
Maintaining accurate records of patient billing and payment information.
Providing reports to management on outstanding balances and collections activity.
To perform this job effectively, a Claims Collections Specialist should have excellentcommunication and customer service skills, as well as a strong understanding of insurance billing and coding requirements.
Education & Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3 years Collections experience in substance use disorder and mental health required;experience with a facility providing multiple levels of care preferred
- 3 years of experience working with healthcare systems, diagnostic coding, andprocedural codes
- Familiarity with HCPCS/CPT, ICD-10 Coding, and ASAM criteria
- Ability to work well in a team environment. Being able to triage priorities, delegate tasksif needed, and handle conflict in a reasonable fashion
- Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals,collections
- Knowledge of navigating through payer portals
- Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and otherpayer requirements and systems required
- KIPU Experience preferred
- CollaborateMD Experience preferred
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
