RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, & delivery
- Purchase products following store policies and assist in stocking shelves
- Research new or alternative sources of supply. Develop relationships with local providers
- Place orders on time.
- Receive deliveries and oversee receiving, following established receiving procedures, and rotate into storage. Check deliveries for damage, quality, and accuracy, and notify vendors of discrepancies
- Review invoices for accuracy and process them appropriately
- Calculate prices following established pricing guidelines. Participate in periodic price comparisons with competitors. Price products to achieve margin and sales goals, while maintaining a competitive image. Markdown items as needed to reduce losses
- Get credit from suppliers where applicable for returned, damaged, spoiled goods. Coordinate storage of items to be returned to suppliers. See that unsellable items are properly disposed of
- Ensure accurate, up-to-date PLU's. Enter new products and price changes promptly and accurately into the POS system
- Plan attractive displays, using color and texture to enhance
- Assist customers with product questions and special orders. Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in a friendly, courteous manner
- Provide clear, readable, consistent signage
- Visit other stores for price comparisons, and product and merchandising ideas
- Maintain areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards
- Participate in monthly and/or quarterly inventory counts. Conduct inventories as requested by management
- Participate in setting sales and margin goals for the department
- Review departmental financial reports (sales, labor, margin, turns), with management and take corrective action as needed
- Attend department and storewide meetings
- Participate in quarterly inventories
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Experience in retail grocery
- Firm grasp of margin pricing
- Communication skills (good listening and the ability to provide clear instructions)
- Demonstrated the ability to handle multiple demands
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job
- Knowledge of trends in the natural foods industry
- Familiarity with store products
