Job Description

Our Cancer Center is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist for our Acute Outpatient Cancer Center population. Priorities include nursing professional development, chemotherapy education and support system for oncology nurses. The Oncology Nurse Specialist is the clinical leader for a program or area of nursing practice. The advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical expertise in a focus area, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and change leadership. The specialized knowledge and skills fall within three areas of focus : patient / family, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization / system. The Oncology Nurse Specialist coordinates and guides clinical activities / projects of nurses within a practice area. The Oncology Nurse Specialist is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost effective, evidenced-based care strategies. The Oncology Nurse Specialist is responsible for maintaining current professional knowledge and competencies and contributing to the advancement of the practice of nursing at the local or national level.

Responsibilities / Job Summary :

• Collaborate and consult in the management of complex patient and family care by demonstrating clinical expertise in oncology through the integration of advanced skills, knowledge, competencies and practice.
• Utilize evidence-based practice, standards of care, and research to transform practice within the organization to enhance quality, cost effectiveness and efficiency.
• Foster professional performance, and influence health care initiatives to generate positive patient outcomes.
