The hospitalist will provide comprehensive medical care to adult and adolescent patients admitted to the inpatient psychiatric unit. The hospitalist will provide comprehensive medical care to adult and adolescent patients admitted to the inpatient psychiatric unit. This role involves collaborating closely with psychiatrists, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the medical stability and overall well-being of patients with co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide medical evaluation and management for patients admitted to inpatient psychiatric units, addressing acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Perform admission history and physical exams, daily rounds, and clinical assessments.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and nursing teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Manage common internal medicine conditions in psychiatric inpatients, including hypertension, diabetes, infections, and withdrawal syndromes.
- Provide medical consultation for psychiatric emergencies, including metabolic, cardiac, and neurologic complications.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, labs, and imaging, coordinating follow-up care as needed.
- Assist with detoxification management and medication reconciliation in collaboration with addiction specialists.
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols and regulatory requirements for psychiatric inpatient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and provide input on medical policies for psychiatric inpatients.
- Educate patients, families, and staff on medical conditions and treatment approaches relevant to psychiatric care.
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine
- Eligible for medical licensure in New York.
- Experience or interest in consult-liaison psychiatry, addiction medicine, or medical management in psychiatric settings preferred.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary psychiatric teams.
Salary : $235,000 - $260,000
