Psychiatrist, Medical Director of Psychiatry

A reputable community-based Healthcare Center located in Manhattan and the boroughs is a leader in providing culturally competent, community-based care, addressing the special healthcare needs of underserved, low-income New Yorkers, is hiring a Medical Director of Psychiatry. Join a team dedicated to providing programs and services that include primary and preventative care, gynecological care, reproductive health services, cardiology, podiatry, psychiatry, audiology, ophthalmology, physician house calls and physical/occupational therapy as well as comprehensive HIV care.

Responsibilities

• Act as a psychiatric consultant on clinical issues to all areas including primary care and health homes.
• Sixty (60) percent of the Director of Psychiatry’s time is spent conducting Psychiatric Evaluations and management of patients as well as providing consultations and education to clinical staff.
• Forty (40) percent of the Director of Psychiatry’s time is spent performing administrative tasks including, planning and coordination of program needs and quality oversight, and serving as the administrative liaison with Vice President, Behavioral Health.
• Work closely with the VP, Behavioral Health in coordinating the assessment and treatment planning for the Behavioral Health Program.
• Meet regularly with program staff to address clinical issues and be available to assist VP, Behavioral Health in developing relationships with community agencies.
• Reviews and interprets medical history data and continually updates this information, as necessary.
• Supervises Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner(s)
• Provides regular peer review of all behavioral health providers
• Provides clinical consultation to all providers
• Periodically reviews the medical policies pertaining to behavioral health and updates the Chief Medical Officer.
• Evaluates each individual patient, prescribes appropriate medication treatment and/or refers as indicated.
• Reviews all problem cases to determine course, management of treatment, referral for consultation.
• Meets with clinical staff periodically to evaluate efficiency and quality of patient services.
• Consults with the Chief Medical Officer on a regular basis.
• Participates in monthly staff physician conferences chaired by the Chief Medical Officer to discuss subjects of interests to staff physicians.
• Supervises psychiatric consultant for the purpose of evaluating efficiency and quality of patient care.

Requirements

• Current New York City license to practice Medicine and Psychiatry.
• Medical degree from an approved Medical School.
• Completion of residency training from an approved residency program.
• 5 years post-training clinical experience.
• Medical leadership experience preferred.
