Talascend is currently seeking a Resident Engineer for a contract opportunity in Kokomo, IN.
SUMMARY :
The Resident Engineer will report directly to the Resident Engineering Lead at the plant. This role involves leading the resolution of reactive machine and design issues, applying advanced problem-solving and engineering knowledge to identify risks, and creating risk mitigation plans to address production and quality system deficiencies. The selected candidate will oversee project deliverables throughout the lifecycle to ensure the product meets or exceeds customer expectations.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Lead teams in identifying risks and hazards related to product designs, processes, and applications, applying lessons learned, and assisting in the creation of FMEAs and associated Control Plans.
- Own and maintain control plans.
- Use advanced problem-solving techniques to address unfavorable variances and communicate alternative solutions to mitigate engineering, timing, or financial issues.
- Coordinate and schedule special build (PER) and change notice (CN) requests, ensuring buy-in from manufacturing and quality teams while minimizing impact on plant metrics.
- Perform risk assessments for CN / PER.
- Lead preventive and proactive quality and customer safety (QCS) technical tools for occurrence and release (O&R), quality maintenance (X and QM), and reactive / preventive QA Matrices and read across.
- Provide technical direction on root cause analysis, issue resolution, and corrective actions, serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the facility, including addressing supplier quality defects.
- Create and maintain repair procedures for non-standard, non-closed-loop repair processes, including blue dot rework instructions.
- Interpret released engineering designs, specifications, materials, and standards to ensure functionality and assess risk, issuing deviations for engineering specifications and generating Temporary Substitution Approvals (TSA).
- Develop FAT torques for new models, perform Torque Audit EBOM checks quarterly, and review CMM / Adcole audit results for conformance to control plans.
- Support Corporate Quality objectives and communicate customer demands to ensure organizational success.
- Provide guidance on engine components to be inspected / reviewed in Functional Audits, finalize severity rankings, and assist with QEWO task completion.
- Regularly review Torque Audit data for conformity compliance and trend analysis.
- Provide direction on dyno failures, QC containments, and adherence to traceability requirements.
- Authorize allowable repairs and write procedures, including blue dot rework instructions.
- Approve SWI and ensure proper EMP use for quality control and assurance.
