Job Summary
Mission: Talbot Interfaith Shelter (TIS) is dedicated to ending the cycle of homelessness on Maryland’s Mid-Shore by providing Shelter, Stability, Support, and a path to Success for families and individuals in need.
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities through effective maintenance and repair tasks. This position requires a proactive individual with strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to perform various maintenance duties, including residential painting, facilities upkeep, furniture moving and staging of our transitional apartments. The Maintenance Assistant will also provide excellent customer service while supervising minor projects and assisting with leadership responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the functionality of equipment and facilities.
- Conduct inspections and troubleshoot issues related to electrical systems, plumbing, and HVAC.
- Execute residential painting projects as needed, ensuring high-quality finishes.
- Assist in supervising maintenance staff during projects, providing guidance and support.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety standards.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff or residents, providing exceptional customer service.
- Use tools such as an ohmmeter for electrical diagnostics and repairs.
- Document maintenance activities and report any significant issues to management.
- Pick up, move, store and set up donated furniture.
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in facilities maintenance.
- Proficient in using tools and equipment necessary for maintenance tasks.
- Ability to lift, push, pull 50 pounds.
- Strong customer service orientation with a focus on meeting the needs of residents or guests.
- Experience in residential painting techniques is a plus.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical/plumbing issues and perform basic repairs.
- Logical thinking skills for problem-solving in various maintenance scenarios.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $19.50 - $20.50 per hour
Expected hours: 24 – 32 per week
