Responsibilities:
- Provide subject matter expertise in relation to various bases of accounting including US GAAP, US Statutory, Bermuda Statutory, Cayman Statutory and Bermuda Economic Balance Sheet (EBS)
- Engage with the corporate development team and executive leadership in analyzing accounting and capital consequences of new and potential transactions
- Assist investments front office and third party cedants to develop accounting policies for new investment structures
- Support overall reporting processes and monitor changes and emerging issues related to bases of accounting and applicable regulations/requirements.
- Review current business processes, internal controls, and accounting policies to determine their continued appropriateness as the business grows and evolves
- Lead a variety of functional groups (e.g., financial reporting, investment accounting, actuarial) on the implementation of any new regulatory standards and amendments.
- Maintain accounting policies across a wide range of investment classes and liabilities (variable annuities, fixed indexed annuities, payout annuities, universal life) across a wide range of bases of accounting
- Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Accounting or Finance with US CPA or equivalent accounting certification
- Minimum 7 years (re)insurance accounting experience, with 5 or more years of relevant accounting policy experience within a life insurance/reinsurance setting
- Expert in some or all of U.S GAAP and U.S. STAT
- Broad range of technical accounting skills gained in analyzing financial processes, reinsurance arrangements and M&A transactions
- Experience with block reinsurance transactions and/or legal entity acquisitions
- Experience with product features and accounting on variable annuities, fixed indexed annuities, payout annuities, universal life, and various types of reinsurance structures
- Experience with a variety of investment structures, including alternative investments, hybrid investments, and loan securitizations
- Be self-motivated and consistently deliver a detail-oriented and organized work product
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to work both independently & collaboratively
