Talen Energy is seeking Plant Control Room Operator (PCO) candidates to join our Operations team at our Martins Creek power plant, located in Bangor, PA. The Martins Creek Plant is a dual fuel station (natural gas & oil) comprised of two units with 850 MW output each. We are looking for qualified candidates with work experience in the start-up, operations and shutdown of boilers, turbine-generators, and auxiliary equipment.
Responsibilities:
Stamina to maintain attention to detail, despite interruptions.
Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen for long periods of time. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone.
Shift worker subject to holiday and weekend work. Overtime required.
While performing the duties of the job, the employee may also be required to climb stairs, ladders, and work on elevated platforms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Responsibilities:
- Starts and stops remote controlled equipment; constantly observes operation under automatic and remote-manual control operation by means of indicating and recording devices.
- Synchronizes generators and controls station generating equipment, power supply to all auxiliaries and station buses of various voltages.
- Directs equipment attendants to operate equipment manually in event of failure of both automatic and remote-manual control.
- Makes minute-to-minute adjustments to always maintain operating equipment at maximum efficiency.
- Operates control room telephone switchboard and FM radio equipment. Communicates with System Operator for readings, station loading, voltage regulation, operating problems and outage permits.
- Shuts down equipment for maintenance and coordinates work with electrical, mechanical, and instrument maintenance forces.
- Determines blocking and issue permits on main plant electrical and mechanical equipment. Ensures that appropriate safety lock out tag out procedures are followed.
- Understands and follows plant emission guidelines for adhering to regulations.
- Maintains station operating logs and prepares and logs maintenance request data.
- Develops and follows operating procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.
- Must thoroughly understand the function of and closely observe many instruments and controls, to act quickly and correctly in emergencies.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and direct the activities of others.
- Ability to make decisions with high quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with all levels of plant personnel (i.e., peers, management, operations team), as well as external contacts.
- Effectively utilizes operational, business and maintenance processes, ensuring adherence to management guidelines.
- Assumes duties associated with Martins Creek Specialist.
- Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary.
