Job Summary:
Responsible for plant operation and maintenance of Units 1 – 4 of the Colstrip Power Plant including all associated equipment and resources during the assigned shift. Typically this position requires working rotating shifts including night shifts, weekends, and holidays. In addition, the Shift Team Leader will supervise assigned employees to ensure work is being carried out in a safe and efficient manner, in compliance with environmental requirements and in accordance with plant wide needs based on analysis of the pants operational and maintenance requirements. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan. This position receives guidance and oversight from manager on more difficult issues. Typically does not perform the work being supervised. Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of assigned work crews.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Ensure and promote a safe conscious work environment and in compliance with the collective bargaining agreements.
2. Assure proper operation of Colstrip Units 1 – 4 within defined parameters and in compliance with regulatory requirements, environmental requirements, labor agreement, and Colstrip SES procedures.
3. Assess and handle emergency situations. Perform Incident Commander duties when necessary.
4. Understand and respond to generation load requests driven by system constraints or marketplace changes. Schedule, monitor, and complete assigned jobs to ensure quality and timeliness in accordance to due dates and priorities. Ensure accurate work requests are written, including problem description and equipment number and ensure that the proper planning center is on each work request. Verify new work is identified through the defined work flow process and that emergency work is attended to and properly documented. Communicate to appropriate Work Coordinator when work request priorities have been changes and when planning/coordinating support is needed to handle emergencies.
5. Supervise craft employees and administer personnel requirements for flex leave, performance evaluations, and other employee issues.
6. Research and analyze Unit performance to provide direction to operating crew personnel.
7. Contribute, support, communicate and adhere to site-wide technical and business directions, including Business Plan, Equipment Strategies and other implemented Reliability Based Production processes and business rules.
8. Sets priorities to ensure task completion and coordinates work activities with other supervisors.
Basic Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree or 7 years of equivalent experience
2. Obtain 1st Class Montana Boiler License within 1 year.
3. Five or more years operation, maintenance or engineering experience in fossil generating units.
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
5. Ability to work well with individuals on all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree
2. 10 years operation, maintenance or engineering experience in fossil generating units.
3. 1st Class Montana Boiler License
