Test/Lab Technician
Our group is working on an innovative semiconductor technology for power electronics, and developing ways to test the devices in application. We need a versatile Lab Technician with good hands-on lab skills, some soldering and mechanical assembly experience, and ability to work well in a team.
Duties will include:
- Occasional soldering and rework of electronic boards with SMD components
- Assemble and wire test hardware, including cable harness and instrumentation racks
- Conduct simple electrical testing of components and boards
- Monitor running test setups and gather/plot data
- Help develop and document simple assembly and test procedures
- Manage an inventory of parts and hardware
- Maintain and restock the soldering stations
- Help with lab equipment calibration, lab organization and orderliness
Required skills
- Must be comfortable or willing to work around high voltage up to 600VDC
- Solder small components down to 0402 with use of magnifier or microscope
- Understand how to use a DMM, digital oscilloscope and DC power supply for simple troubleshooting
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word to document test findings and enter data into existing docs.
- Understand basic mechanical fasteners: Screws, nuts, washers
- Can use basic shop tools: Band saw, drill, metal files, metal cutters, heat gun, screw hole taps
- Understand simple wire attributes: Wire gauge and voltage ratings, use of crimp terminals, heat gun, shrink tubing, cable ties, etc.
- Ability to work well in a team with good communication skills
- Ability to multitask and change directions when required
- Attention
to detail and safety procedures
- Can
keep their projects and area relatively well organized
- Must be dependable and willing to work overtime as needed
