POSITION SUMMARY
The SSHE Specialist will be based in Gurnee, Illinois for our Performance Materials Business. The position will support the Site SSHE Manager in a broad range of activities as it relates to Safety, Health, and Environment. This individual will be expected to facilitate on-going support for our chemical manufacturing operations. Promote and contribute to the sites culture where Safety, Health and Environment are engrained as our core value with all employees. Assist in various SSHE programs, their implementation and daily follow-up, plus train other employees in key SSHE areas as necessary. Ensures on-going excellence in SSHE compliance and expected daily work practices at our chemical production facility.

Gas Detection Maintenance, Safety / Environmental Inspections, General Safety Auditing
Industrial Hygiene Monitoring / Environmental Support
Participates in the Job Safety Analysis process and helps ensure completion of high quality and documented JSA’s.
Frequently conducts safe-work, system, and work condition audits, assist in incident investigations.
Inspects and maintains safety related and emergency response equipment to ensure accessibility and availability of safe reliable equipment.
Participates in Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSR’s).
Acts as a safety resource to the various customers of the SSHE Department by providing effective solutions and removing obstacles to a safe work environment.
Desired Skills and Experience
5 or more Years SHE experience, preferred in the chemical industry or a related field.
Bachelor of Science degree or pursuing in safety / environmental compliance.
Primary knowledge of OSHA regulations as well as knowledge of EPA, SWPPP, SPCC, RCRA and other federal, state, and local regulations required.
Desired Skills and Experience :
Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are needed.
Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, if needed.
Professional judgment, consistency, and attention to detail are critical to success.
Requires facilitation skills necessary to educate and train employees in general health and safety principles and techniques.
Must be able to work well with others, with in all levels of the organization.
