ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to join our client’s senior leadership team. In this high-impact role, you will oversee the organization’s financial operations, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and contribute directly to the organization’s long-term growth and sustainability.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller plays a critical role in aligning financial strategy with organizational goals, fostering transparency and efficiency, and leading a high-performing fiscal team. This is more than an accounting role — it’s a leadership opportunity to influence culture, innovation, and operational success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a strategic financial leader, actively participating in organizational planning and sustainability initiatives.
Oversee and direct financial operations including accounting, budgeting, payroll, procurement, and compliance.
Ensure full compliance with GAAP, GASB, Uniform Guidance, and funding requirements.
Lead the annual budget planning process, forecasting, and financial alignment with strategic goals.
Coordinate and lead all annual audits, including Single Audits across multiple entities.
Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure financial integrity and operational effectiveness.
Mentor, train, and evaluate fiscal staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
Guide modernization efforts of financial systems and integrate new technologies (e.g., Oracle NetSuite).
Monitor and manage funding sources, drawdowns, reimbursements, and compliance reporting.
Deliver insightful financial reporting to executive leadership, government agencies, and stakeholders.
Stay up to date on evolving regulations, ensuring continuous improvement and best practices.
Collaborate cross-departmentally to align financial planning with programmatic and operational needs.
Contribute to strengthening organizational culture with an emphasis on accountability and innovation.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in full-cycle accounting, budget management, and financial planning.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, GASB, OMB Circular A-122, and Uniform Guidance.
Experience with federal/state funding and grant compliance.
Preferred:
CPA license or equivalent certification.
Experience in nonprofit financial management and leading Single Audits.
Proficiency in financial systems like Oracle NetSuite.
Advanced Excel skills and strong data analysis capabilities.
