Job Summary
The Wound Care Nurse plays a critical role in the assessment, treatment, and management of patients with acute and chronic wounds. This position requires specialized knowledge and skills to provide high-quality care, ensuring optimal healing and recovery for patients. The Wound Care Nurse will work collaboratively with healthcare teams to develop individualized care plans and educate patients on wound care practices.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' wounds and overall health status.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized wound care plans based on best practices.
- Perform wound dressing changes, debridement, and other necessary procedures.
- Monitor patients for signs of infection or complications and adjust care plans accordingly.
- Document all patient interactions, treatments, and progress in medical records accurately.
- Educate patients and their families on proper wound care techniques and infection prevention.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Maintain compliance with infection control protocols and safety regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to wound care management.
Skills
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Proficient in specimen collection processing and medical documentation.
- Knowledgeable in infection control practices and airway management.
- Familiarity with ICD-9 coding for accurate medical recordkeeping.
- Experience with Cerner or similar electronic health record systems.
- Ability to provide care for pediatric patients is a plus.
- Previous experience in travel nursing is advantageous.
- Understanding of mammography procedures is beneficial but not required.
