Job Overview

• Role: Medical-Surgical Nurse with Oncology Expertise
• Location: Medical-Surgical Unit (with floating requirements)
• Patient Demographics: General medical-surgical patients, oncology history, occasional chemotherapy administration.
• Shift: Nights
• Patient Ratios: 1:6-7
• Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (OT not billed until after 48 hours if applicable).
• RTO Policy:
• Max 7 days.
• No RTO allowed during Christmas.
• RTO requests beyond booking not permitted on-site.
• Call Offs: May lead to cancellation or DNR. Make-up shifts are required for missed shifts.

Required Qualifications

• Experience:
• Minimum 1 year in an inpatient setting.
• First-time travelers accepted.
• Skills:
• Administering and monitoring chemotherapy.
• Med/Surg expertise.
• Blood product administration, central line, and peripheral line management.
• Colostomy care, accessing ports, wound care, chest tube management, isolation precautions, etc.
• Certifications:
• BLS.
• Chemotherapy administration certification required prior to start (OCN certification not mandatory).

Preferred Qualifications

• Skills: CPI training, charge nurse experience.
• Certifications: OCN certification.
  
  

Additional Details

• Floating Requirement: Required to float to similar units or inpatient holding areas like ED.
• Call Requirement: On-call if called off from a pre-scheduled shift.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
• Disaster Response:
• Contract staff must report during catastrophic events or disasters.
• May be preassigned to alternate units during these times.
• Documentation/Medication Systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR.
• Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts).
• Scrubs: Navy blue and white.

Special Notes

• Storm Team Requirement: Contract staff will be assigned to storm or hurricane response teams as needed.
• Patient Diagnoses: Includes AKI, Sepsis, ARF, OD, Cancer, diabetic foot ulcers, encephalopathy, etc.
• Special Procedures: Chemotherapy administration via IV, PO, or injection.
