Job Description:
The Condo/HOA Litigation Legal Assistant provides administrative and clerical support to lawyers, paralegals, and legal teams involved in litigation cases. This role involves managing case documentation, organizing schedules, preparing legal filings, and assisting with trial preparation. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of legal procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience working at a real estate law firm with heavy Condo & HOA experience!
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management:
- Organize and maintain case files, both physical and electronic, ensuring documents are properly filed and easily accessible.
- Assist in the preparation of pleadings, motions, and other legal documents under the supervision of attorneys.
- Track case deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements.
- Coordinate with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel as needed.
Document Preparation and Filing:
- Prepare, proofread, and format legal documents such as summons, complaints, discovery requests, and responses.
- File documents with courts and other relevant agencies, both electronically and in person, ensuring compliance with local rules and deadlines.
- Maintain case databases, tracking important deadlines, filings, and correspondence.
Court Support:
- Prepare trial binders, exhibits, and other materials necessary for trial preparation.
- Attend court hearings, trials, and depositions as needed, assisting attorneys with note-taking, document management, and other logistical support.
- Assist in preparing for settlement conferences and mediations.
Legal Research:
- Conduct basic legal research to support case preparation, including statutes, case law, and local court rules.
- Assist attorneys in reviewing case law and legal precedent relevant to ongoing litigation.
Administrative Support:
- Manage attorney calendars, scheduling hearings, depositions, and meetings.
- Draft routine correspondence, memos, and internal reports.
- Manage office supplies, equipment, and other resources for the litigation team.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree or certification in litigation support is a plus.
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a litigation-focused legal assistant or paralegal role is preferred.
- Knowledge of Legal Procedures: Strong understanding of civil litigation processes, court rules, and document management.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Attention to Detail: Ability to spot errors and inconsistencies in legal documents and filings.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
- Organization: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of E-filing Systems: Experience with electronic filing and court submissions, particularly in state and federal courts.
- Trial Preparation Experience: Experience assisting with trial preparation and support in a litigation setting.
- Multitasking: Ability to handle multiple cases and priorities simultaneously without sacrificing attention to detail.
Salary : $80,000 - $95,000
