Essential Functions
- Examine requests and verify orders for each assigned patient; consult with Radiologist for any discrepancies.
- Identify patients using two identifiers and assist them while providing a brief explanation of procedures.
- Prepare patients for procedures with full explanations and document on appropriate worksheets.
- Conduct patient interviews to obtain complete medical histories and review EMR's for pertinent clinical history.
- Correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.
- Take responsibility for the exam from start to completion of dictated results.
- Prepare and administer IV contrast per departmental protocols, recording type and amount as requested.
- Evaluate the technical quality of images and consult with a Radiologist if needed.
- Recognize abnormal anatomy and process additional images or measurements as instructed.
- Inform nursing personnel of any changes in the patient's condition and initiate life support measures if necessary.
- Assist in "code blue” procedures during medical emergencies.
- Perform CT scanning and assist Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures using proper sterile techniques.
- Follow policies and procedures related to bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control during invasive procedures.
- Authorized to obtain medication or contrast material for administration by a licensed practitioner.
- Practice radiation safety principles for self, employees, patients, and family members.
- Report malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer.
- Operate radiology computer systems, including entering orders and charging procedures/supplies.
- Document contrast administration in the MAR.
- Maintain assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Assist other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, during exams or services in conjunction with a CT scan.
- Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies.
- Work involves walking, standing, sitting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling during normal operations.
- Requires mental capacity to understand the assigned area of clinical expertise or technology.
- Motor coordination needed to operate equipment, including various computer systems.
- Intact sense of sight and hearing.
- Required to use radiation safety, MRI safety, and proper ergonomics to maintain an effective, safe environment.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience required.
- Graduate of an accredited two (2) year AMA and ARRT approved program in Radiologic Technology required.
- ARRT (CT) certification required.
- BLS (AHA or ARC) certification required.
